Has Fate lured the heroes into recovering, what appears to be, an indestructible playing card with an image of the sun or. . .was it something else? Valthrun the Prescient, the sage of Winterhaven, has identified the strange card as part of the artifact of Chaos known as "The Deck of Many Things" and warns the party that the semi-sentient card will attempt to reunite with the rest of its siblings. The last time the entire deck was assembled, however, resulted in a catastrophe that destroyed the legendary fortress/temple of Gardmore Abbey. Be advised, Valthrun ominously states, that it is likely that other cards have been discovered and, possibly, by ruthless, power-mad entities that have no concern for the danger they pose. . . "The Cards We Are Dealt" is an original 13th Age campaign with a few minor rule changes, like the removal of Icons as a game mechanic and more defined background skills, set in D&D 4e's Nentir Vale and using the "Dawn War" pantheon.
