(Edit: Found a DM already) First off, for most traditional/expert DMs I tend to be viewed as somewhat of a
problem because i love making entirely new things with the character. So i should warn you, not one of my characters has ever fit the traditional "correct character" and "mistakes to avoid" formula because none of those mistakes are mistakes. The advice Ive received on what to do both as a player and as a DM myself has been
some of the stupidest most backwards advice i have ever heard in my
life. Being a DM i deliberately ignore the "right way" for players characters and also the campaign itself. Because most expert DMs cant see that it's the best idea ever and my players love it more than any campaign they've ever been in before. I pour every drop of my passion for creativity and making
tons of new stuff into my characters, their story, motives, personality and what he/she
does during campaigns both as PCs and NPCs. The next paragraphs are going to be ALOT of stuff. So you'll see my DM nature immediately, but its also how I began DnD as a player years ago, so it permeates every facet of how I play my character. Back-stories from the very first one I made to now are rich, detailed and very long, but purposefully left with vague holes in both player knowledge and the backstory itself so the DM can fill in those holes however they want in order to flex their creativity and surprise me. So here is what im looking for: I love the concept of the Yuuzhan Vong
and their extra-galactic invasion from the New Jedi Order books and I've
always wanted to play in a alternate timeline campaign where instead of
the Vong invading and almost wiping out the galaxy causing it to change
forever. What if they were stopped
by the Star Wars Galaxy and utterly crushed, we are talking they get
royally fucked, basically having absolutely zero chance and straight up
slaughtered. But the question is always who would ever be believable as
capable of
slaughtering and utter destroying something that almost destroyed the
entire Star Wars galaxy with just a scout force? Well, the answer is
Tyber Zann from the game "Empire At War: Forces of Corruption" I have
always loved him as a character and dear lord, you want the true
giga-chad of Star Wars? Look up what he and the Consortium achieved.
Thrawn, Vader, The Empire, and the Chiss Ascendancy are boring, weak and
wish they could manage to be even half
as good/deadly as this man and his organization. Plus Zann and the Consortium
disappeared after the game and were never used
ever again. Combine all this with the game's story plus final event
and
you got all the material you could ever ask for. I kinda picture him swiftly and ruthlessly conquering the galaxy because he knows whats coming, establishing a new Galactic Empire without the cruelty or incompetence of the first one, or the the petty senatorial squabbles and political agendas that doomed the New Republic. Some things
have detail but are
EXTREMELY obscure in Star Wars, others are given just a passing mention,
or have never been
seen. A good example are the Sorcerers of Rhand, powerful creatures who
can use the force, but not of the Force or the Dark side who serve
something else, something called "The Way Of The Dark" and that there is
very clear (but unconfirmed) proof that they are behind the Vong's
existence and the Vong are actually the Taung, the original Mandalorian
species that lived 200,000 years before the Battle of Yavin shown in
"Episode 4: A New Hope" which went extinct but had a splintering with a
large portion leaving for the depths of the unknown regions. The Yuuzhan
Vong and their invasion also raise questions about what is
beyond the Star Wars Galaxy. What other dark threats might lurk out
there at the edges of the Unknown Regions, or beyond? What other allies,
neutral parties, or anything are out there, part of Star Wars but
beyond its only known galaxy? So in combat for this campaign
this is what im looking for. For combat, even with the imagination of 3E
the style is always just: "flavor for attack, attack roll, oh, 15, NPC
AC 16 flavor for NPC defense, you fail". So think DnD 3E combat expanded
where its about what you can come up with to do, ways to do things, use
what you have, use the environment, and imagination. Not primarily how
abilities "mechanically work in the system" even with imaginative ways
to give bonuses. Stats and numbers, abilities and everything else still
extremely important, but more a guide on what happens, how effective,
and how difficult it is based on the rolls and other things. So for saber
combat and to a lesser extent gun combat, its a back and forth with
things like "i swing my saber straight down at his head in a two handed
chop but at the last moment go one handed reversing my grip so theirs
nothing to block as i try to pin his foot to the ground with the force
before i go to a normal grip again and slash upward trying to cut him in
half down the middle" like its a actual fight in star wars. All this is just my thoughts and I
dearly hope it grabs the interest of a DM and players out there, giving some inspiration for a campaign. I
need my star wars itch scratched and i already have a character concept that isn't going to be able to be done with traditional mechanics or approaches. Also if you have questions about things in star wars if you love the idea but feel like you might not know enough or just want more things to pull from. I'm your guy. I know TONS about this stuff.
