Hello everyone, I am here just wanting to share a combination of just one Mod and two macros that you can use to create an interactive map in Roll20. I use this to link all my maps together allowing my players to change to different maps/pages that I have given them access to. It is very easy to set up and doesn't take long so you'll be creating the interactive map in no time.
1st: On your campaign home screen where you would go to launch the game you will click on settings and go to the "Mod (API) Scripts" option. Highlighted yellow in the image below.
2nd: You will go to the Mod Library and look for the MapChange Mod created by TheWhiteWolves. Select it and press add script. Make sure it's the most updated version.
3rd: You will go back to the launch screen for your game and launch it. Once you are in the game, I recommend getting familiar with the MapChange Mod by typing, !mc help in the chat, not in bold. After becoming familiar with the commands create any Macros for commands you want have available just by the click of a button. To do this you will go to the top right toolbar and click on collections as shown in the picture below.
4th: You will click on the +Add button next to Macros and it will open up a small window like in the image below. The two macros I recommend you use are a to-map" macro allowing players to move themselves to a map, and Rejoin-party allowing the players to rejoin on the Map/page the GM has the party Icon on. You can name these whatever you would like this is just what I have named them.
On the to-map macro you will write in the Action text box , !mc move --target @{target|Select a Location|token_name} , Not in Bold. Then at the bottom make it visible to all the players you wish to give this macro to. This will allow your players to click the macro and then change maps/pages by clicking a token that matched the name of the map/page.
On the Rejoin-party macro you will write in the Action text box, !mc rejoin , Not in Bold. Then at the bottom make it visible to all the players you wish to give this macro to. This will allow players to Rejoin the main page the GM has the party on.
Optional: If you want making a Menu Macro for the maps by writing in !mc menu , not in bold, can be useful.
After creating your macros, in the macro tool bar you will see the macros listed and a box that says In Bar next to it. Checkmark this so that the macro appears as a button for you to click on the bottom left of your roll20 screen.
Once you have done this the last step is to create a token and name it the same name as the page you want the token to send players to. This token can be a blank token becoming virtually invisible or a token of a door, portal, elevator or carriage for longer distance travel. This is case sensitive so make sure the name it is exactly the same as the page you wish it to go to.
How to Use it: Now that you have it set up players will be able to click the to-map macro and then click a token and it will take them to the map the token is assigned to.
Recommendation: I have also created pages for each player named as their character token name so that players can choose their own token and be taken to a page where they can take notes, add images, or even just doodle in session.
And with that enjoy having an interactive map that will make your game more immersive and make life as a GM easier for you!
