Setting Drisenheim , a world just entering a period analogous to the Belle Époque/Gilded Age/Victorian era. The world's tone is 60% Aetherpunk, 20% Cyberpunk, with a smattering of geopolitics and "Ancient Ones" spread throughout. Tone Dramatic/serious. A bit desperate, a bit of post/just-pre small-scale apocalyptic. Pitch Four centuries ago, the Great City of Supan was discovered on the small island of Larpacia, a towering, circular megacity capable of housing millions. Universally agreed to have been created by a God, the city has not been functional for millennia, and has become a geopolitical hotspot. While the ports and entrances are controlled by whichever power currently claims dominion, the inner city is too vast to police or control. To the millions who live within it's wall, outside concerns are irrelevant, trivialities that do not affect their lives. The ancient, incomprehensible life support systems of the city hum, providing clean air and water to the population. And yet, this is only the surface of the city. The deepest surviving expeditions have gone nearly a kilometer downwards, entering the whirring, changing rooms of the city's core. Lucky to return alive, yes, but reporting even deeper depths with each return. The party are long residents of the city, people with deep interest in securing it's future, perhaps for power, perhaps simply because they live within the walls. The hum stops. The water stops flowing. It doesn't come back. Out of game stuff I don't require any knowledge of GURPS, but this is probably not a great game to start your pen-and-paper career in, unfortunately. I tend to go deep into politics, geopolitics, and the implications of players actions, and very little in combat. My games are typically about the players being thrown into situations far larger than themselves and having to make the best out of that, both for themselves and their beliefs. I want players to believe the world around them is reacting to what they're seeing and doing, but also that other people are acting on the board, and that the world will move on with or without them. Not powerless, usually actually quite powerful, but not the sole linchpin of society.
