How to have the entire map visible without Explorer mode

I recently got a plus account to fiddle around and use Dynamic Lighting with a war game I am planning on doing, but my current testing left a lot to be desired. I want to have the entire map visible for both players, and only hide enemies unless they're within range of other units (and they can hide behind mountains, hills dense forests etc.) but the Explorer Mode isn't exactly doing what I want. I don't like the greyed out look of the map when you can't see it, and more importantly having it enabled makes the game lag unbelievably much (The number of tokens shouldn't be the exact issue since disabling EM doesn't cause this much lag). But playing without it leaves nearly the entire map pitch black which is also not ideal. I have no idea how to proceed and feel like I upgraded the account for basically nothing. Is there something I am missing or a trick to deal with this?

Hi DroplettOtter,  I would set it up like this:  Give tokens night vision out to their "range".  Set up dynamic lighting barriers for your mountains, hills, dense forests, etc. Do not use Explorer Mode.  Give everyone an overall view of the map via a handout.  In short, there is no way to do what you want without using EM, which as you discovered can cause issues.
