not an LFG post, just a question

So, there's this oneshot in the LFG find a game part of the site, and i posted an application there. How much time should i expect to wait to get an awnser?
From my own experience, sadly it is solely up to the DM. If they are cool they will announce when they have all their players and thank those that applied but didn't make it, but oftentimes you get silence if you are not chosen.  In the LFG section (not the forums) if the posting disappears the GM has also found their players so it should be safe to assume you didn't make the cut. Finally, if you applied, and it has been a few days and no reply, odds not looking good (unless the DM just hasn't been on since, see below), or if you applied, and seen the DM respond to someone else but not you, while not a guaranteed no, also doesn't look good.  At that point, I would move on personally and apply for another game. As a DM, I have had people apply to me, and within 1-2 days later when I check my posts, and reach out, being told they found something else, it was obvious they were "shopping around" which they are allowed, but I take note of the names and tend to not invite them in future games as it doesn't feel serious... but that is me.  (most DM's I find will post for 1-2 weeks out to give people time to apply, DM's being people too don't always check every day). May the odds forever be in your favor :)

if i was the dm i would checked daily .. but some people are busy on day to day things in there life .... 3 day top.  if its been 3 days its full or he cancel it  or the dm been shot by his wife because he been caught cheating lol
No longer than 25 minutes.
The DM might also just be waiting to see what kind of people are interested. They could just want their choice of characters

I'd say that's an RNG outcome situation. just one game host to the next, some are very on with fast turn around times while others are slower only checking in every so often to go through apps. Also some hosts seem to not respond at all until there's some minimum number of requests/apps posted. Like they didn't want to make a call until they had seen enough total apps or whatever. My own xp on this, is all over the map basically, nothing particularly reliable to assume. Also generally you only hear on yeses, just get ignored on nos. So if i don't hear back within a few days i just assume it means no and move on.

Folks are different and everyone has their real life stuff.  I usually post my games at least a week out and sometimes a month or more out. As a player I give most DMs a few days and see if there is any activity in the thread like "hey all thanks I'm going over the apps and will send out invites."  If the communications are ongoing then I'll wait a week or so.  But if it is a dead thread then I will move on after 2-3 days because if the DM is too busy to send a message that they are working on it, they tend to be too busy to consistently run.  Real life happens, and I figure something came up. Which is fine and is totally cool, I just prefer a game where folks keep in touch.  As for the other side of the coin, it is amazing how many folks who beg for a game, create the "looking for GM" thread  send literally dozens of multi-page messages about making a character, the campaign settings, make the character in the game session, and so on.  And then same folks  decide to ghost the session 0 without even sending a "Can't make it."   Probably they suddenly got a better offer or changed their mind.  Or as you know, real life stuff. However as the GM who has put in the time and effort prepping the game/campaign, allocated the block of time, being ghosted tends to make one more inclined to block said players.  For example I noticed that there were some folks looking for a GM on the forums.  However they just ghosted another GM I know.  So yes, I am sorry and I won't reply to those threads.  :)

There was a delay in starting because one of my players had stuff come up but they showed up to the one shots I ran in the interim. We seemed to be having a good time. But they reconnected with an old friend and wanted to play with them again but the only available time slot was my time slot so....I got dumped XD Like I don't have hard feelings toward them. They were cool people. But I'm hesitant to answer such an ad again.
I kinda understand, been with 3 others in different campaigns for 3 years now, would be sad if they left, and if they wanted to come back would try to add them in, but I wouldn't leave a game for it, but that is just me (unless I wanted to leave the game for other conflicts already and was tempted to prior) Kesra said: Rerednaw said: Folks are different and everyone has their real life stuff.  I usually post my games at least a week out and sometimes a month or more out.
