Are animated maps native now?

Can you upload an animated map or do you need to use the plugin still? I never tried to upload an animated map but would be a cool bonus if it's native. Don't really wanna ask my friends to download a plugin.

It's possible and it's allowed. But it tends to have Lag in the current Roll20 (especially during the uploading, also sometimes while using the map).  However in "Jumpgate" the upcoming new version of Roll20 that is currently in Beta testing, there will be better support for animated maps. If you can wait a matter of weeks or months, or if you want to test converting a copy of your game into Jumpgate Beta, this probably has better support than the default Roll20.  The most "native" ones that's most likely to work off-the-shelf, are the Animated Maps that they sell in Roll20 Marketplace, because those are already uploaded into a server, so you don't have to go through uploading/converting them.

Also, to clarify, all images uploaded to Roll20 are converted to some degree. Even a simple jpeg or png is converted and stored at multiple sizes, to reduce overhead during display. (Roll20 will serve the most efficient size for your current view and level of zoom.) This process takes a LOT longer on animated maps.
Ok, thanks y'all!
Oh wow I just tried it out on a copy and it's way smoother. The only downside is that I used a death animation with the FX and it's not in the beta. Hopefully it releases FX soon!

I saw. Very more modern looking. Love it!
