I'm Bekks and I'm brand new here at Roll20. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one with hardly an idea about what they're doing, so I figured it might be fun to gather a group interested in learning D&D 3.5 together! I'm happy to be GM and am looking specifically for players with the same overall experience as me: none. If you're friendly, have never played D&D before and/or are ready to learn as you go - then respond to this topic! Please Note: I'm Australian, so times of play will be quite "out of whack" for most others. (Would love to find some fellow countrymen and women, btw!) TIME OF START & DURATION: CST: 1:00PM - 3:00PM, Friday EST: 11:30PM - 1:30AM, Thursday/Friday INTERESTED PARTIES: Kim V. (AUS) Chris W. (AUS) Steven J. (AUS) George C. xChrommagia (USA) Wayne H. (USA) Scott H. (USA) Eric D. (USA) Jered B. (USA) Andrew N. (CAN) | SAFE | character sheet Roy M. (USA) Joshua I. (USA) | SAFE Nikki C . Christos S . Milan L. William T. (USA) CORE BOOKS: Player's Handbook | Dungeon Master's Guide | Monster Handbook I ( optional: rules compendium ) Also, please consider creating a character sheet on mythweavers.com . None of us really knows what we are doing, so just wing it and then we can compare and help each other out. Since everyone is still waiting on the world info I'm currently in the midst of writing, just do what you can for now. Soon there will be plenty of links to informational online word documents authored by yours truly. It will be a somewhat traditional medievalesque world, so please ensure your characters fit that setting. ((If you're awesome-ly lame like me, you can use this http://www.azaleasdolls.com/lotr.html to build the eventual token used for your character.))
Definitely interested, As i said I'm willing to learn new games so 3.5 sounds like fun! Also Australian!
Hi Bekks,I'm definitely interested in learning and playing 3.5 and I also know another Aussie who would love to join in and learn/play with us if that would be alright with you.
sup im chris' friend
I've never played D&D but I'm willing to try.
Hello, Bekks and everybody. My name's Devin and I'm from the U.S., but I'm definitely interested in learning!

CST = Australian Central Standard Time, right? If so, that works for me if it's done on Friday/Saturday Australian time (11:30 PM Thursday/Friday US). I'm not available other days at that time. edit: Slight adjustment for my availability. 1:00 PM Thursday/Friday CST (11:30 PM Wednesday/Thursday US) works for me. Forgot that my days off change next week.

Hey, instead of 3.5 maybe you would prefer to use Pathfinder. Its like 3.5 but with many changes that makes it (On my opinion) better.

ANSWER: Hmm, thank you for your input, but at this stage - since we already have interested people - it seems best to stick to 3.5. Perhaps we could do a Pathfinder learning offshoot at some point. In which case, seeing as you must have experience with Pathfinder - you could help with it! c:
I think i could make this work, when would we be starting this? oh im in the USA btw

I am totaly up for a game! Here's my character sheet: Monk USA BTW Also, the time is ok for me. I live in Florida so it'll be 11:30 pm.
Definitely down if the time works out, I'm from Canada. I've played before but it was years ago and that was my only tabletop experience, I've got the standard 3.5 books plus a couple others. Extremely interested but not sure how the time would work out too well, 1pm I think you're 13.5 hours ahead so that would be midnight, that'd be find but depends on how long it goes.
I have updated the original post to include the best times available for most. If anyone has any issues with it, please let me know! Also, there isn't a date set yet because I'm still getting organized as far as maps, world creation et cetera. The games will probably be weekly, however, but the scenarios will be reasonably flexible, so character/their players can duck in and out without missing too much.
Good evening!! I am to to play some 3.5. I may need a little help getting started, as I am new to Roll 20.
USA, Maryland. EST. So 1130 for me.
Everyone, please refer to the updated original post. c:
Sounds good to me! Should we create characters ahead of time or...?
I'm game for this, and I'm available any day after like 8:00 (Pacific US Time)
8:00 PM, that is

Lovely, also if anyone needs any of the handbooks (Any of the 3.5 ones, seriously, ANYone of them) I just saved favorites on pdf's for nearly every single one (I HAD SOME SPARE TIME, OKAY)
Also, will we keep it to the 3 core books or everything? just trying to get as much knowledge as possible before hand
Andrew N. said: Also, will we keep it to the 3 core books or everything? just trying to get as much knowledge as possible before hand At this point, yes. I don't think we should get too ahead of ourselves as far as learning goes. With that said, some information might be pulled from the other books here and there (but it will be on the online docs I'm creating).
Great! I'll get started on one right at some point tonight.
I'd be interested depending on the finalised day/time! i have a little 3.5e experience so can help with the learning process.
Looking forward to this, going to start reading up on 3.5e rules. Thanks for all the work you're putting into it, Bekks!

So far what's in the original post seems to be the best day and time for everyone, so if that doesn't suit you maybe we can work something else out. Thanks so much for offering to help with the learning side of things! c: Eric D. said: Looking forward to this, going to start reading up on 3.5e rules. and for generating our stats? will we use a point system or a dice system?
Aren't we just playing with core? Players Handbook, Monster Manual 1, Dungeon Masters Guide?

Edited 1411798290
well all three of those links are listed as players handbook 1. players handbook 2 and players handbook 3 so i asume that all 3 are "core"
Andrew is right: Players Handbook, Monster Manual 1, Dungeon Masters Guide. You could also add the Rules Compendium if you wished. Since this is a learning experience, it's important to go though the DM/GM's role as well as how to build a character etc.
steven j said: and for generating our stats? will we use a point system or a dice system? Dice System, since that's the "normal" way for D&D. So: Roll 4D6 ; drop lowest ; repeat 6 times ; change lowest Stat to 18.
oh. i guess ill have to do some more thinking. as i was going to make a knight from the players handbook 2

So: Roll 4D6 ; drop lowest ; repeat 6 times ; change lowest Stat to 18. an idea is that we roll the stats for our character once we get the game going. as it would be easy for players to just choose what they want. but if we do it ingame then that wont be the case

Depends how many people we have ingame at once... But yes, perhaps that might be the best course of action. Let me think on it a little.

oh, and another piece of advice a friend gave me. limit your party size to 4-6 players. any more and things start to become hard on the gm, because, 1) loot will be a real pain in the ass to work out. and someone will end up complaining about it because they got nothing. or the other player got the item they wanted/needed, 2) combat will be extremely large, and EXTREMLY time consuming. depending on what class people go. a single turn can take anywhere between 30 seconds, and 3 minutes. with the current 13 people + mobs we could possibly spend an hour doing nothing but waiting for the other player to take his turn. an idea (completely up to you if you feel like it) is to split up the group of 13 people we have in half, make a map (or pick a map someone else has made) and get both groups to play on the map at opposite ends. and each side has the main objective to kill off the other team. planning a joint game the following week whenever the two groups are set to fight each other,
steven j said: limit your party size to 4-6 players. I will be very very surprised if all thirteen players on the list turn out to be dedicated to every game . I'm betting that some people will get busy, won't show up or will just "drop off the map", as it were. If I prove to be incorrect, I will consider your idea and any other methods of making everything fair. You are most certainly correct about thirteen being way too many to have in a single game.
