D&D 5E 2014 Charactermancer now freezes on 'build character'

D&D 5E 2014 Charactermancer now freezes on 'build character' I did a restart, and still occurs. Is this a plot, or accidentally, related to 2024? Update: Changed some details and it completed.  Is this because of an update to builder, or because some options do not work?  Also inconsistencies between two runs, elf-high elf did not ask/offer cantrip choice, then failed and even when custom background removed and save was successful, still no cantrip option.

Hi Jim W.,  The 2014 charactermancer has always had some sticking points where it locks up. Example: it doesn't like Ranger's Favored Enemy humanoid selection.  Which option was it locking up on you with?  The usual workaround is to bypass the option that is locking up and then fix it afterwards.
Right at end where updating the character.  The red bar does not even go a litle bit red.  I'll go back to manual edit, it is far easier that way

Let me rephrase: when you are finalizing the update where the red bar fails to progress there is usually some option that causes a problem.  Alternately there could be another issue. This guide may help with that.  As for manual, I've been doing that forever. It is my groups' preferred method. :)
Only way to know that is to change things one at a time - in this case I think it was choosing a Custom Background

to avoid wasting time, yes
It's a shame because the Charactermancer is such a good idea, especially for people who are less familiar with setting up a character. But I've never found it to work well, at least in 5E 2014, so I usually tell players to just not use it.
