If someone has Integrated voice and video selected for their game, nameplates are truncated to around 11 characters. This is a problem for a number of reasons: 11 characters is way too short as the default for a name. Not every person has their given name first. Given names that are long exist. You can easily have two people in one game with the same long first name (so they have to add their last name to the name plate). And heck, fantasy names get LOOOOOONG. People use the nameplates to store other data. In my games, we use them to store: Character name | AC ## Character name (IRL name) Multiple character names Character name | Class Suggestions: Make the nameplates more flexible by upping how many characters they can be before they truncate. Under Settings > Display > Nameplate, add some helper text that communicates how many characters will be displayed. Even better, copy the popular UI that changes the background of text that won't be displayed, a la Twitter / X.
