Nor, Lor, Elaryan, and Eovan awaken in the rope trick dimension to find that Aron and Arthas have disappeared. There is a brief moment of concern, but Nor reasons this isn't the first time one of the party members has vanished... and the halfling points out that he has Aron's map, so the four of them should be able to scout Citadel Dreaen alone. At that moment, the demonic figure atop Elaryan's staff animates for a moment, and speaks three words: I smell devilkind . Nor climbs to the bottom of the rope, and uses stone shape to open a passage back into the ravine. Looking around, he discovers that the Staff of Angazhan is correct: a sinister portal has opened, and an army of barbazu, cornugon, and pit fiend devils are marching forth. He shares this information with the party, a which point Elaryan remembers that he has a vision the previous night. According to Elaryan, the devils have been sent by Yakmar, one of the sorcerer-princes of Uldivai, to lay siege to the citadel. They hope to capture the Sword of Truth for their own nefarious purposes, and also are seeking something called the Forge of Corruption . The sorcerer is quite adamant that the heroes need to reach the Forge before the devils do. After a brief conference, the companions decide to use the invading devils as a distraction, slipping around to the rear of the citadel and performing a surgical strike while the inhabitants have their hands full with the besieging forces. Consulting Aron's map, Nor decides that the best entry point is the South Garrison. The heroes fly low across the surface of the River Styx (which forms a defensive moat arounf the citadel), then spring a surprise attack on the garrison forces. The parapet is defended by a combination of tiefling archers and brimorak infantrymen, neither of which are powerful enough to withstand the companions' onslaught. The heroes make short work of them, and are about to enter the citadel through a breach in the wall when anoter foe attacks. Climbing up from the surface of the mighty Styx River, the Stygian Elemental stands forty feet tall. Its body is vaguely humanoid, but formed entriely of liquid. It strikes with huge watery fists, and its blows have the same soul-stealing qualities of the Styx itself. Terrified, the party decides to flee. Xhotl takes to the sky, dragging most of the heroes with her. Once they are out of the reach of the Elemental, it collapses into water and seeps into the floor. The way forward seems safe once more. The party returns to the citadel and begins to make their way stealthily down its halls. They run across a Chapel dedicated to Torag, decorated with tapestries and dwarven statues. It appears to be deserted, but as Nor makes his way across the room, three of the statues lurch to life, and leap forward from their platforms! Everyone who played gains 4,000 XP
