An idea to makes hex map usable on Roll20; allowing to use 2x/4x or more even number size tokens while snapping on grid.

The idea is simple, although it doesn't drop the drawback. I wonder that there are anyone had the same idea, but I cannot found someone had one at least for now.

I have to note that you do still need to draw the hex cells for this idea.

Anyway, first, make a new page, set the grid type to be hex - but choose the different type of hex you want to use; if you want vertical hex you should choose horizontal hex, and vice versa.

Second. set the cell width and grid cell distance to be 0.5, rather than 1. 0.25 or smaller does works, but it should be an aliquot of a half of the unit you want to use(so 2.5, 1.25 or so fourth if your basic unit is 5). Then make the page.

After then, draw the grid and set it align with the grid, but rather than align with the actual grid line and your drawn(or image) line, align with the center of the grid and the vertex of each hex of your drawn/image hex.

Like this, for example.

I was just put this image(made by mine and it's a child's play) on the map layer and spamming this instead, but you may try the other ways if you want. Note that it is optimized for 35 pixel, and for jumpgate it is automatically reduced so you need to increase its size by a double.

Finally, open the page settings, and reduce the grid opacity to zero and get rid of it for good. You won't use it. EVER.

Done. So your size 2/4 tokens are fully ready for grid snapping without having weird balance.

It does not comes with a drawback, for some directions the measuring tool shows incorrect range, because it measures from the grids on Roll20 system. In this case you should pinpoint each cells' center instead. Still it would be far convenient than manually press and release alt each time.

edit: It won't work for the non-circle tokens, such as 1x2 token, and in this case you may need to set the size of the grid about 0.2 instead although I didn't tested for this.

That is an interesting technique.

Thanks for sharing your method, although that seems like a lot of work to draw-in the lines for hexes.
