Hi! I’m Kenton, and I’m Head of Product at Roll20. I played my first game on Roll20 in 2016, and joined the crew in 2018. I am happy to have been a part of the amazing journey this company, this software, and this community have gone through since that time. In a recent blog, Roll2025 – A Peek into Roll20’s Future, by Ankit Lal (CEO) , we discussed some of our largest accomplishments from last year, including integrating with Discord, overhauling the virtual tabletop, launching the 2024 D&D character sheet and builder, launching a redesigned DriveThruRPG.com , acquiring Demiplane, and implementing 2FA while expanding login options. These projects benefited tremendously from community feedback, and as part of our commitment to continue building the tools you want, we're kicking of a series of monthly AMAs. These aim to provide the community with transparency around what we're working on and why, hear suggestions and ideas that would benefit your games, and allow you to ask the Roll20 team questions. February’s AMA will take place Tuesday, Feb 4th, 2025 from 1PM – 2PM EST right here in this thread. [Edit] The thread is open, and ready for your questions. For any questions that were submitted early through the form will be quoting "Anon"
Hi everyone, we'll be getting started at the top of the hour!
When will we see increased Compendium Sharing Slots. I am a professional full-time DM who uses Roll20 and have been requesting more than 5 slots for my 10-15 games/week for years now.

Anon Q: Will the D&D 5e 2024 sheet continue to use the 'default' template, or will additional templates be created to allow the default template to be used for other things? Great question! The team is actively working on expanding the available roll templates to give more flexibility. In addition to the default template, we're introducing new options like Simple, Attack, and Damage to better suit different roll types. We’re excited about these additions and can’t wait for you to try them out! Updates will always show up on change log and the more exciting and in-demand ones are announced on the blog .

When will we see the ability to use the transmogrifier to move folders of maps from one game to another? In the suggestion it said the ability exists but is not yet ready. That was a while ago. https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/3234668/transmogrifier-allow-copying-of-folders#post-12191958
Moving folders of material via Transmogrifier would be immensely helpful!
Anon Q: Hi I saw that the sheet is totally different build up as the old ones. The problem I have is that no macro is working with new sheets. What I also miss is that I cannot build up macros easily because in the text box I cannot press the UP key to see the last "command" or pressed roll. How are your plans for macro and this "last command used" thing? Hello! For sure, Macros are one of the best time and energy saving features for GMs and players, alike. We did use our new platform, called Beacon, to build the sheet from the ground up with more modern development methods and philosophies. So, while not everything will be exactly the same, we are actively working making Macros and Token Actions work with the D&D 2024 sheet. We will also add the ability to inspect and understand how the existing chat output is formatted. We plan to release this support in phases, starting with the Macro capability on the new D&D sheet, phase 2 will be for Macro documentation so that you all can write your own, Phase 3 will have more developer tools to make the syntax easier.

Ajax DM said: When will we see increased Compendium Sharing Slots. I am a professional full-time DM who uses Roll20 and have been requesting more than 5 slots for my 10-15 games/week for years now. You're not the only one! We've been hearing this more and more, it's hit a tipping point of enthusiasm and – because of that – we are actively exploring this (including interviewing power users and professional DMs like yourself). Candidly, this is one of those "measure twice / cut once" things for us, as it touches various aspects of the business. But we will have an update on it later this year.
Anon Q: Will vehicles or other types of character sheets be implemented on the D&D 5E 2024 character sheet? We’ve received this request in a few places, and we know it is wanted. However, we don’t have a timeframe at this point. Our current focus is on bugs and usability fixes that come up most often. Keep an eye on our blog as we are always posting updates on our priorities / focus areas and things that have been recently released. As a reminder: our prioritization and focus is influenced by a variety of factors, and one of those is gauging demand from the community. We strongly encourage everyone to post and vote in our Suggestions and Ideas forum .
Hey, everyone! Peter from Demiplane checking in. Hope everyone is having a fantastic day. To kick off my time as part of the AMA, I'm offering up my favorite Demiplane pre-generated characters (to date!!!): Valeros (Pathfinder 2e + Export to PDF Ready) - The classic Pathfinder 2e character sheet. Can't go wrong. Taskmaster (Marvel) - what an awesome superhero concept. Fun to see it in TTRPG form. Palinor (Cosmere RPG + Export to PDF Ready) - If you haven't raised the stakes in Cosmere RPG, you're missing out! Dae (Solarian from Starfinder 2e) - I mean... when your weapon description starts with "Through sheer will, you can call forth a tangible weapon comprised of the essence of stars"... let's be honest. Finally - this is not a character sheet - but the Deck of Player Safety is an awesome free tool to use ahead of game sessions.

Has there been any consideration, or even possibly work, on allowing us to add our own custom content to our personal compendium to share with our players? For example custom spells, items, etc... that could be dragged and dropped onto a sheet from our personal compendium, rather than custom built every single time.
Anon Q: Any plans to allow the dnd 2024 character sheet to order items listed, right now is alphabetical but my players have expressed a want to order it, also subclass that is homebrewed is hard to do on the new sheet This is something I’m personally looking forward to having available! We’ve seen this feedback come up in a number of channels and is something we are planning to queue up after we get through bug fixes, Macros, & Mod Script support. No firm timelines just yet, but once we get through those other priorities we’ll have an update on when you can expect the next batch of features!

Anon Q: Thanks for the hard work. When will the D&D 2024 Rogue's Reliable Talent feature be fixed in the new 5e character sheet? Thanks for the kind words! We’re lucky to build games at work. To your question, it’s on our list to fix, along with other situational bonuses that prevent rolls from going below a certain threshold. I don’t have a specific ETA to share, but we released fixes for 29 different issues in seven days last week. We’re speeding down that list to your issue!
Anon Q: Do you have plans to upgrade/overhaul the jukebox? Spotify integration would be amazing. Would it be difficult to add a new reveal tool for the fog of war? The polygon reveal tool is very cumbersome and difficult to use, something like an eraser brush would amazing, would this be feasible? While we don’t have explicit plans on the roadmap to overhaul jukebox functionality or integrations, we are aware of slowdowns that can occur when used in campaigns featuring animations and are hoping to incorporate a fix for that in the first half of this year. If you are excited about the potential of the Spotify Integration, please upvote it in the Suggestions and Ideas Forum . We agree that a brush feature would be a great addition to the Hide/Reveal Mask (previously called Fog of War tool). This tool is on our list of quality of life enhancements for the year.

X/Twitter: When are we getting DC20 character sheets? We are getting REALLY excited about what’s coming for DC20! Version 0.8 is the current version of DC20 live and in the open. We'll have have both Version 0.8 and the soon-to-be-released Version 0.9 as the foundation for the DC20 Nexus on Demiplane. From what we know today, Version 0.9 is coming very soon and, once we have that in our hands, the work begins on Character Sheets.
I'm not sure if this is allowed, but I am hijacking this thread to share how awesome a Spotify Integration would be!! My upvote hath been given. Lavi said: Anon Q: Do you have plans to upgrade/overhaul the jukebox? Thanks for bringing this one back! We have the back-end work underway to support moving folders via the Transmogrifier. We still have the front end work to make this a pleasant experience as a consideration on the roadmap for this year, but at the moment the team is focused on a couple of other high priority and highly requested features like enhancements in Jumpgate (Roll20’s New Tabletop), animation uploads, and foreground layer.
Anon Q: When will we finally have good online versions of the books we buy on Roll20? I personally hate to read them on Roll20 and don't spend more money on the website because of that. Hi everyone, Jayme here from Roll20's Marketing team. Last year, we redesigned the Dungeons & Dragons 2024 Compendium to make reading and finding your content easier, implementing an uplifted navigation system and an overall cleaner experience. This blog from our UX and Product Design Lead walks through some of our decision making and shows how we approached the redesign. With that in mind, we’d love to hear more about your experience. What do you struggle with most right now? Is it your D&D experience, other systems, rulebook content, adventure content? What would improve them most for you?

Also; I just want to say thank you for the work you are putting in to improving this platform. I cant wait for the foreground layer, that's such a big feature that we have wanted for a long time, and it's happening! Keep up the good work!
Anon Q: Is this bug ever going to be addressed? (Bug Summary: (rollable tables through RecursiveTables are only returning a value of '0', instead of a table item) Yes, this was super frustrating for me, too, and I’m happy to report that we released a fix for this bug yesterday (a shoutout to TheAaron for this one!).

Anon Q: Currently, we have to use raw HTML to make character sheets. Are there any plans for a character sheet builder: a set of general tools to make a custom character sheet for any system? This is something that is on my “pie in the sky” wishlist – so take this with the caveat that it is currently just a dream of mine, and not yet on any roadmaps. But I would absolutely love for us to have a visual/WYSIWYG tool that has a variety of different “out of the box” components people could drag and drop into various templates, to create custom sheets without having to know anything about HTML, CSS, or JavaScript. And it would include some easy options to style the sheet in a distinct way, to make the sheet look “cool” and non-generic, too. Of course, a lot of systems (especially indie systems) use some very novel mechanics that are at odds with that sort of a simplified system. That said, I think it’s feasible to create something like this that would work for 90%+ of systems, and hopefully just require a bit of outside help for people wanting to implement tricker system mechanics.
Anon Q: ¿In the future, will you translate the platform into Spanish and add more content in Spanish?(Google Translate) Thanks for the great question! There are a few layers to this, so I'll break it down by each. First, the overall website experience: this is already translated into Spanish and many other languages. This can be accessed from your Account page. Then there’s character sheets. The D&D 2014 sheet is translated into Spanish, and we plan to translate the D&D 2024 sheet as well. I don't have a date yet, but it is coming. As far as published content, this is generally publisher specific, based on individual deals with them, as well as their sub-licensees who sometimes handle translations. We are definitely interested in growing our international content library and are pursuing opportunities, but I don’t have anything to announce at this time.

Anon Q: Wondering when the app is going to get an update or replacement. In particular the addition of charactermancer. I use roll20 for online games and it’s great but for offline it’s pretty bad and I like paper character sheets but would love the functionality that roll20 brings. A: We want our desktop experience to be fully featured before moving to mobile; but mobile/offline usecases are important to us. Supporting in-person play has a few different avenues for us to address (Print to PDF, better mobile responsiveness, and a mobile app update). We are currently working through research for these, but don’t have dates just yet as our engineers are working on other features first (like Macro/Mod script support, an improved UI for Spell management, and custom item ordering).
Reddit Q: Will there be any improvements of the Pathfinder 2e game? I'm a little annoyed that there is so much happening for D&D but other popular games are somehow left behind. Not just PF2e that I personally play but others, too. The fixation on D&D - especially with the latest developments in Blizzard – seems to be quite big. I'm not entirely certain where Blizzard gets involved in all of this, but boy howdy do we have lots of exciting things in the pipeline for Pathfinder 2e, Starfinder 2e, Vampire the Masquerade, Daggerheart, and more. I’ll cover things quickly here, but - before I do - there is a blog post we just posted last week you can read here that will go more in depth. First - we introduced a new feature between Roll20 and Demiplane that we’re calling “Cross-Platform Sync” which unlocks content between both Roll20 and Demiplane for both system’s users. So, whether you play in person with Demiplane or on the VTT with Roll20, your library on one will unlock on the other for game systems supported by Paizo, Marvel, and Free League. We are working with other game publishers to add to their capability. Second - we also introduced that we’re entering a Public Alpha stage of bringing Demiplane’s character sheets into the Roll20 Virtual Tabletop. While the Public Alpha specifically is focused on Starfinder (and is targeting a late February launch), we’re working to quickly follow-up with our Public Beta in Q2 2025 to allow for the rest of Demiplane’s sheets to work alongside existing or new Roll20 campaigns. Specific to your comments, this includes bringing Demiplane’s full and advanced support for Pathfinder 2e straight to the tabletop. Finally - while it doesn’t address a direct question of yours - we will soon introduced Shared Demiplane Subscriber Benefits for all Roll20 subscribers: anyone who is subscribed to Roll20 will also receive Demiplane’s subscriber benefits of unlimited characters and content sharing with up to 24 friends for free. I am pretty excited for these three pieces to come together. Thanks for the question, Reddit user from the great digital beyond!
Anon Q: dnd 2024 sheet is amazing but its hard to use with any homebrew items or things which give spells are there plans to flesh this out? We’re adding tools to create better homebrew items every day! Right now we’re working on adding a modifier that lets you edit how many items you can attune to at the same time and working on advanced calculations like “10 plus half your character level rounded down” for a lot of the existing modifiers. Look forward to the modifier builder becoming more and more robust and advanced in the future.

For example custom spells, items, etc... that could be dragged and dropped onto a sheet from our personal compendium, rather than custom built every single time. All the staff responding to the questions in this AMA are sitting in a meeting, calling dibs on which questions we get to answer. This question had multiple people arm wrestling to write the answer. All of that to say: we are all really eager to make this happen. Not only for our own games, but because it’s at the very tippy top of the Suggestions & Ideas form . While we worked on completing previous higher suggestions, we started researching how to make this happen, and the main blocker here has been how difficult it is to format the written content into the data structures needed for bringing onto sheets, using in the builder, and making the custom entries work as closely to entries from paid content as possible. As we pull together our grand vision internally , we know there are a few foundational pieces that are important to bringing what we want to offer to life. Beacon , Jumpgate , the D&D 2024 sheet , and the Demiplane integration are all in the hopper and will all go a long way to help, but those are not the end of the journey on this specific topic. We don’t want to deliver a half-measure, and while all these building blocks are coming together, we don't know when we'll be able to deliver on this feature. After we feel good about those experiences, our goal is to come back to this.

Anon Q: Is there a tool that converts 2014 D&D character sheets to 2024 character sheets? The tool to convert 2014 characters to the 2024 sheet hasn’t been developed yet. We’re focused on making the 2024 sheet the best sheet possible first, helping users when they start new campaigns. We may consider working on a conversion tool if we see high enough demand in the Suggestions & Ideas form .

Thank you for answering my question, and everyone else's questions. The answers are providing valuable insight into Roll20's path forward and I am happy to see the platform continue to develop and improve. I'm often quite critical of Roll20, but only because I use it so much and love it, and want it to be even better. Keep up the great work!
Anon Q: How about minion tokens where changing a stat on one (HP, for example) does not affect the same stat on all the others? This is possible now, but with a few too many steps in my opinion (see below), so we’d like to make improvements for usability. In the settings for that token, edit the attribute you have for their HP, choose 'None' from the drop down menu. Keep the hit point maximum and current hit points at full. Set this as the default token. This should allow each token to have the same hit points on drop but independent of each other. Alternatively, you can unlink the token from the sheet altogether. Then re-link and save. Then replace the token on the sheet again. We recognize that this workaround is not very intuitive, so we are actively talking between Product, Design and Engineering about a quality-of-life improvement to alleviate this challenge.
Is there any update on fixing nested queries so that they don't require html substitutions? Back on October 20, 2021 , there was a temporary fix that was put into place, but then it was rolled back the next day (as it must have caused other problems) but it was a hopeful moment to streamline and simplify queries that would be preferable to chat menus for lots of players!
Is there design space to go back and improve the various filters for the compendium? The UI there could use a refresh
Jarren said: Is there any update on fixing nested queries so that they don't require html substitutions? One of the most interesting things about working on Roll20 is the amount of customization the platform opens up “implicit features.” Basically, that’s a bug that users start incorporating as a feature. In this case, the change that was released in 2021 ended up braking many macros and games, so it was reverted. In order to fully solve the HTML replacements issue without causing problems to existing macros, the solution becomes significantly more complex. TL:DR - We want to, but fixing this is much, much more difficult than it appears.
Thanks so much to everyone who submitted questions for us today. We got to as many as we had time for, and hope you don't mind that we stayed a little later than anticipated. Hearing directly from you helps us in many ways, including providing insight into how you play and use Roll20 and helping inform how we can continue to build to support your needs. We look forward to hosting monthly AMAs moving forward and will announce next month's date and venue soon, so please keep an eye on emails and social media for details.
