Dark Heresy 40k - Make Cover Easily Identifiable

Hello All,

I'm on the verge of starting a new Dark Heresy game and would appreciate any sort of tips/tricks that could help my players look at the map and at a glance be able to tell cover without having to ask me. I feel like it could save a lot of time.

Cover in Dark Heresy has the following attributes

  • Protective value or AP (Armor Points) - How tough the cover is depending on its material.
  • Coverage - Is it half cover like some boxes or full cover like a full on pillar?

I have all of my pieces on the Map Layer -- I had thought about moving some to the Token Layer so that I could use the status tokens as indicators but it was too cumbersome to deal with when moving NPCs.

Thanks in advance.

You can lock down the position of the cover tokens so that they won't be moved with npcs - additionally, if you have cover that is part of the map so you can't separate it, you could use a transparent generic cover token that you then assign the relevant values to.

EDIT: Another simple idea is to create a cover token from a d20 roll, by rolling 1d20 in chat, dragging the die icon to the map, and setting off "is drawing" from the advanced options. You can then move the token over the relevant cover piece, move it to map layer, resize it to your liking, and add a token marker of your liking. You can then choose the side of the d20 to represent the AP value of the cover in question.

The numbered dice works pretty well. The color will dictate the coverage. Green for full, red for half.

I will play around with this but this seems to be the way. Thanks Tuo!
