Animated Tokens/Assets freezing

Roll20 Jumpgate
Google Chrome

Issue:
Since a couple of weeks ago, it seems like animated tokens and other assets freeze their animation if you tab out of the window you have roll20 up on or minimize it for too long. When going back to the page, the gifs do not resume their animation.

Temporary fix 1: Reloading the page restarts all animations. Of course, those of us using the jukebox will be without music until track is switched. Not to mention that GMs might be having multiple handouts, notes and sheets up that need to be reooened on reload.

Temporary fix 2: Pulling out a new copy of a gif (or a new one altogether) runs that copy no problem, but all other assets on the field will not play. So you can just replace everything manually. But having to do this just because I happen to tab out for a couple min is not feasible.

This only seems to happen when specifically tabbing out or minimizing the window. If you simply unfocus the page (if you have multiple windows beside eachother or multiple screens and switch focus between them), the animations will run no problem.

This also seems to be a relatively new issue, as I've used animated assets before, such as a player campsite with animated campfires with animated smoke, for several months. The players can spend a couple of hours in camp RP while I'm browsing other pages or prepping things in the background and the animations were fine, but it's only the last two or three weeks that I've noticed this issue.

I do not know how long you need to be tabbed out for animations to stop. It seems to be somewhere between 30 sec to 2 minutes.

I don't know if this will work to help or not.

Try this,

In Google Chrome > go to Settings > Performance > Always keep these sites active > Sites you add will always stay active and memory won't be freed up from them > add Roll20.net and app.Roll20.net here

Check to see if that elminates the issue with animations stopping when you tab to another window for a length of time.

Followed your instructions, did not work :(

Sad that didn't help.

You might want to try to send a Report to the Roll20 Help Center, that generates a help ticket

If you do send a Help Center Request, it's usually a good idea in a case like this to include a Console Log (Chrome, Firefox) from the time of the event.

I also have the same issue! I've reported it and included all this stuff but no movement yet
