Recap: Following a lead for answers to his questions, Clifton hires Gick as a
guide through the edge of the Dreadwood Forest. At dusk they meet Ash, a druid
of the forest.
Once night falls, they come across a fire in the clearing. A
man sleeping nearby is rudely awoken and attacked by two savage little beasts,
later revealed to be forest goblins. They are quickly dispatched by a
well-placed Entanglement spell, and the man is saved.
Stories are told around the campfire, including the recent
goings-on in the small village of Marlgrove, and a drunken half-elf named Frodrick stumbles upon the site. Ash begins to bury the two deceased goblins.
Moved by their show of respect, as they didn’t rifle through
the goblins’ belongings and tried to give them a proper burial, the slightly
more intelligent leader of the goblins approaches the camp. He challenges them
to an honorable, one-on-one duel.
Ash accepts, but quickly regrets the decision as the goblin
charges through the fire to attack her. Thankfully Frodrick is not one for honor,
and he attacks as soon as he’s able. Clifton and Gick later assist.
The goblin is mercilessly killed, and the group goes back to
the fire.
They decide to make a detour to Marlgrove the next morning,
following the rumor of a strange beast that attacked and killed a half-dozen
villagers there.
