token help

Hi All.  Help please! :)  I am trying to set up a dynamic battle map.  i want to have a transparent token overlay the battle map but be able to see the map through it.  the problem is that the transparent image shows right through the battle map to the grid behind it.  i have the battle map set to back and drawing and locked in place.  i have tried making it a token and it has the same effect.  i have also tried setting it up on different layers to no effect.  any suggestion would be helpful.  thanks in advance

HI Mordack! I take it from your description that the "magic circle" graphic is the one you want to be transparent? If so, I think I need help understanding the issue. The grid opacity is identical over image and map above, just showing in higher contrast over white. Are you asking if the white portions can be made transparent? A little more explanation would help me understand what you are after.
Yes i am trying to make the white sections of the magic circle show the map behind.  However it is giving an x-ray effect and showing the grid behind the battle map.  it eve goes so far as to show the white background behind any color i pick for the background.  and it is showing the grin behind the grid isnt part of the image at all.

It sounds like the image is acting as if it has a white background. Can you post the image here for testing?

Yeah, that image doesn't have any transparency to it. It displays on your map exactly as expected. Here is a version with the white cut out. The Roll20 Grid renders on top of the map layer. Therefore, your white areas show the grid much more clearly than the background map does, since your grid is a neutral gray.
Thank you! that worked fine, soirry for the delayed response.  Life seems to always get in the way of dnd lol.  so what did you use to make it transparent? i tried but it obviously didnt work properly.

Short answer: I used Photoshop. Long Answer: The image was black and white, so I used the RGB channel to make a selection based on that, created a new empty layer, filled the selection with black pixels and deleted the original layer. I then saved it as a png24 with transparency.
