D&D 2024 Player Handbook and character level up in a 2014 game

So... I just bought the 2024 Players handbook and (stupidly) didn't check the wiki before buying it. I'm not the DM of the game. I can't share it. It's not really a problem as the DM is open to us using 2024 or 2014 and most everyone else has a physical copy. I'm just mathematically challenged and I prefer to use the character builder because I don't find the math part fun at all. The problem is, since the DM can't share the book, my character cant use the 2024 players handbook to level up... that was the entire point behind me buying the book. I get that I can't share it... but I also can't use it on my own character... So... I tried to use it on the non-imported into the game character (Thinking I'll level it up outside of the game and then re-import it), but now it's locked, and I need the DM to unlock it. What am I doing wrong?

You should be able to use the 2024 Players Handbook on your character unless the Game Owner has redlisted it or you are using a 2014 character sheet. If your group is using the 2014 character sheet you will have to manually create and update (level) your character sheet. Not use the Charactermancer.

Also, if you believe you have purchased something in error, please contact the team via a Help Center Request . They should be able to handle a refund.
I also have a suggestion post to allow players to Compendium Share in any game so everyone can benefit. https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/12345156/compendium-sharing-as-a-player
Alright... This has become really frustrating. So, here's the end goal: My Bard is college of Glamor. The only way to get the charactermancer to allow me to select anything OTHER than the college of Lore is to have the Player Handbook (Right?). Okay, so I bought the player handbook, but then found that as long as my character is in the game, the DM needs to own the Player handbook. Alright. I got a refund for the Player Handbook and then RE bought it as a gift for the DM. The DM then set it for all of us, but our game has 9 players, and I am the only player with a subscription to Roll20 (I've had a subscription since 2013). So he couldn't set the compendium to share because he can only share to 5 or less. So HE gets a subscription. The game is now a Jumpstart (We moved the game over). The game is set to 2014 and 2024. I've added the character to the game, DM now has a copy of the Players Handbook, DM and I are BOTH subscribers, I've restarted Roll20 many times. I've made sure I exited out of the charactermancer and started all over. Well... after all of that I STILL can't select anything other than the College of Lore... What am I doing wrong?

Hi Guy D., The bolded line below is not accurate. Your GM does not need to own the Player Handbook if you do. It just needs to be whitelisted (and not redlisted) in their game. Players can use their own books if desired as long as the GM has not redlisted them. If you got official information that stated otherwise please cite it so that it can be corrected. There is likely a bug going on. I would file a bug report via the Help Center as there are occasional issues with what can be available in the 2024 sheet. Another thing you might try is re-creating the character from scratch, see if the new character has the same issue. Guy D. said: Alright... So... the answer to that question is... I'm not sure. The DM and I spent the afternoon shuffling things back and forth. Either we heard that somewhere or perhaps we finally figured that was the only result that would work. We have been getting progressively more frustrated because the game is going on right now and I was supposed to have had my character in the game completed a week ago. They have been trying to tell me to just do the character on paper but I'm the one who is bad with math and wants to use the charactermancer. Add that this is my 35 year-old role playing group so... well, they are kinda fed up with me complaining yet again about math (And delaying the game). I'm sorry if I'm getting frustrated and scrambling the facts. (Let's complicate this more: the game started just before Covid, we switched to Roll20 FOR Covid. The Roll20 game and characters are 5 years old. I'm rebuilding my character in 2024 because I had made so many mistakes in the last five years that the DM and I thought just staying with the Charactermancer and not "going off script" (And we made her with College of Lore back in 2020 and never were just trying to put Glamor pieces in when we remember... which is why she was so screwed up now five years later) Maybe I'm going from the wrong angle: I want to make a Bard (2024) from the College of Glamor... what do I need to do to make the Charactermancer to do that?

If you'd like, I could try to help you with creating your character. We could meet in Discord. (I can be found in the Roll20 Discord server .)
