MOTW Character Sheet/Playbook integration

When I create an MOTW game, I make sure that the "Monster of the Week by Evil Hat" character sheet. If I look at the game settings, (Settings/game settings) I indeed see that the MOTW character sheet has been selected. When I load the game however, and click on one of the Preassigned Characters, then alt double clock on the token, a dialog box opens, but it is completely blank. How do I assign a character sheet to a character? I have tried to troubleshoot this on my own, but have not found a solution.  Any Ideas? TIA

Now, all characters, including new characters are greyed out, and on mouse over, I get a blue pinwheel. I am becoming quite frustrated with Roll20, it seems to be very buggy. Perhaps it works well for D&D but seems very janky indeed for MotW.

The grey out issue means that there is likely some connection issues; that's what journal items look like when they are working on loading. For your original question, it looks like whoever did the conversion work to put MOTW in Roll20 didn't connect the tokens and the characters by default. This is something that you can fix in your game relatively easily, but I would recommend contacting Evil Hat to let them know about the bug. To fix the issue: open the character, and click on the edit button in the top right Then click on the "edit token properties" button underneath the token picture Then set the token to "represent" the correct character (currently set to "none") You can also link various attributes to the token bars as you want to. All future tokens you drop for this character will be linked correctly, however, there isn't a way to update any tokens that were already dropped before fixing this.

Hi Scott, thanks for your response. I have opened a ticket for the bug. I think that the characters and tokens are linked (see first screenshot). It's useful to know that though for character creation.  The problem I have is that there is no content in the Character tab - it's blank and I see no way to put anything there. I'm presuming that something tries to load, as when the window opens I fleetingly see the Roll20 logo, then nothing. The character sheet basically won't or can't load.

ah, I see. I had misunderstood what you meant by a dialog appearing. I had thought you meant you were getting the token options dialog window. When you try to open the character from your token, are the characters still greyed out in the journal? I do get a view like that briefly as the character sheet loads; this sheet seems to take a bit to load. And then, some other things to consider: what browser and browser version are you using? Do you have features like javascript disabled in your browser? What happens if you try this in your browser's incognito mode?

Hi Scott, my post was probably confusing. Our conversation has helped to distill it down a bit. I'm struggling to replicate the greyed out issue reliably, but I can tell you that the behaviour when opening a character sheet from the token is the same whether the characters are greyed out or not. (EDIT: Actually this turns out not to be entirely true. Just now, I opened the game and noticed that the characters were greyed out. When I opt-clicked on the token actually nothing happened... I moved to a different tab to check on something else and after a few minutes the character window opened. I went back to the game tab and noticed that the characters were no longer grey. It seems, as you said, that there is some internal connection issue to the character db. When it opened the character tab still contained no data). Answers to your questions: what browser and browser version are you using? Version 137.0.7151.104 (Official Build) Do you have features like javascript disabled in your browser? No, it's turned on What happens if you try this in your browser's incognito mode? The behaviour is the same  It's important to note that this issue only occurs with MotD games using the Roll20 core pack. It does not happen with any of my other games such as Delta Green. Cheers, Spry

From that version number, I'm guessing that your browser is chrome (or chromium based)? Unfortunately, I can't replicate the issue in a game I made with the MOTW module. The only two other things I can think of is did you make the game using jumpgate (the default now a days), or the legacy r20 environment? And, what happens if you make a new game using the MOTW module, or even just a game where you set the sheet to use the MOTW sheet and make your own characters? There shouldn't  be any reason for this to affect it, but I can't think of anything else at the moment. If neither switching your game to jumpgate (if it was on legacy before), nor creating a new game solve the issue, I would recommend filing a bug report via the Roll20 help center.
Hey Scott, sorry, yes Chrome. I didn't convert the module from a Legacy install to Jumpgate, I purchased it a week or so ago and have only used Jumpgate to access it. I know it isn't a supported browser but I get exactly the same behaviour with Safari I tried what you suggested, created a game using just the MotW character sheet and disnt use a module to create a game, still the same behaviour I'm afraid. Thanks for your help with this, I appreciate it. Am working with the Helpdesk so hopefully it will be sorted soon.

You're welcome! If I could replicate it on my end, I'd be able to troubleshoot a little better, but the sheets load fine for me (with a little lag period where nothing is loaded).
I just did a bit of troubleshooting.  I decided to try to create a game using a different computer, so I logged on using an iMac. I created a game, and everything worked! Everything I could not do on my laptop, works on that machine,  All the character sheets open, all as it's supposed to.  So  It looks as though the problem is at my end, aaand only if I use my laptop. Aaand only with MoTD on that laptop not with Delta Green. Confused of Portugal.
Happy Happy, Joy joy! I have got it working on my laptop! :) I was messing with my network setting and noticed that my VPN was filtering traffic through a "Transparent Proxy" I turned it off and bam! The character sheets connected aaand the Character sheets loaded up!  I can only thing that this proxy was blocking a the same port that the character sheets get the data from. Or something. Hopefully someone will learn something from this, I certainlky have! Cheers, Spry
