I think it's a good question, I'm interested, but I haven't learned how to do it myself yet. I believe that Roll20 transcodes all uploaded animations into Webm, meaning that the animations in your game & the animations in the Marketplace are effectively webm's. They certainly contain transparency. I am not 100% sure if they were "only" created as transparent GIF and then transcoded into webm , or if they could be created as webm in the first place with appropriate software. Hopefully a marketplace creator or Roll20 team will come along with a real answer for this. Maybe ask that on some Davinci Resolve forums also
I really hope someone will! I've been asking in forums and discord channels all over and not a soul has been able to help me out yet. My biggest issue is that I cant use a GIF file as the animation is 3 minutes long.

Read this page, see if it has any info that helps.... It does talk about Webm and transparency a bit... Most-current info on the Help Center, https://help.roll20.net/hc/en-us/articles/360037256634-Best-Practices-for-Files-on-Roll20 Outdated version on the Wiki, https://wiki.roll20.net/Image_Best_Practices_for_Roll20 Ultimately if the answer is not there, it probably should be, so if you find out... let's try to get it added to Help Center. Webm itself is a relatively newer format that has recently been gaining traction, which is maybe a reason information is sparse. Webm is a format invented by Google, so IDK if any Google apps exist for animations editing

Are you still having difficulty with this? When I've exported tokens with transparent backgrounds in the past, I've used Adobe Premier; but Premiere can't natively export WebM with transparency. It requires the WebM plugin from the Fnord software site (free). And when exporting the webm file, I have to verify that the "Include Alpha Channel" checkbox is checked. I just did a test, to verify that things haven't changed since I last did this, and it's working with the latest version of Premier. If you could provide more info, I can attempt to help troubleshoot.

Its the act of alphaing out the background of a video then bringing it onto Roll20. THere seems to be very limited information on this but its clearly possible as I have multiple marketplace assets such as animated spell effects that all have transparency.
