[LF DM D&D 5e] Seeking a Rockstar, Reliable Long-Term DM for Family Game (Paid Position)

TL;DR: Need an awesome, RELIABLE DM for me, my 3 sons (young teens/almost teen), and possibly my GF (new player). Must run weekly sessions consistently (see schedule below), use Discord for voice/chat, and be engaged with players. Pay is competitive and flexible ($1-$40/hr or $125-$500/month) – sell me on why you're worth it! Read the backstory below if you want the full picture (hint: it matters!). The Backstory (Why We're Looking - Skip if Just Want Facts): Love our current DM as a person, but after a year, the unreliability is unsustainable. We're talking cancellations for roughly HALF our scheduled sessions , even after significantly increasing his pay (nearly triple the original rate). Communication is non-existent outside sessions (no Discord replies, ever). Investment feels wasted, especially after giving him a large tip specifically to buy resources for our campaign on D&D Beyond... only for him to buy ALL the campaign books instead of monsters/dice/tools we needed ("How does that help OUR game, dude?"). Last session featured a black-and-white map that looked like my kid's art project, ended 2 hours early, and I just discovered animated maps exist?! Felt like we had a caveman DM. My kids will be sad to move on, but paying for nothing isn't an option. Rant over! If you read this, you probably get why backstory matters. ;) The Players: Me (Dad, experienced player) My 3 sons: Two young teens, one almost teen. They're enthusiastic but can bicker sometimes (different personalities!). My girlfriend (possible player, very new, still learning – showed her animated maps and she loved the clarity!). The Absolute Must-Haves: Rock-Solid Reliability: This is a paid commitment . Real life happens, but consistent cancellations (like half the sessions) are a deal-breaker. We need someone who shows up weekly . Communication: Must be responsive on Discord outside of sessions for quick questions or scheduling conflicts (e.g., "Got it, will confirm later" takes 2 seconds!). Ghosting between games isn't acceptable. Platform & Voice: Voice chat must be via Discord (non-negotiable). We're flexible on the VTT (Roll20, Foundry, Owlbear, etc. – show us the cool animated maps!). Kid-Friendly & Patient: Must be comfortable DMing for teens/pre-teens who might squabble occasionally. What We'd Love: Long-Term Campaign: We want this to be our thing for the foreseeable future! Engaged DM Style: Get into the world! Voices are cool but not mandatory – bringing the story to life is key. Homebrew Welcome: Allowance for homebrew characters (within reason) is a big plus for the kids' creativity. Visuals: We saw animated maps exist... that looks awesome! Willingness to use engaging maps/tokens is highly desirable. Flexibility: We're open to your DM style (XP or milestone, rules interpretation, campaign type – homebrew or module). You're the captain! The Schedule (EST): School Year (Sept - June): Weekly, 2-hour sessions. Any Weekday (Mon-Fri) 5:00 PM - 8:45 PM EST start window . *Strongly prefer Tuesdays 5:45 PM - 7:45 PM.* Summer Break (July - Aug): Weekly, 3-hour sessions. Any Weekday (Mon-Fri) 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM EST start window . *Strongly prefer Tuesdays 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM.* The Investment (Budget): I pay fairly and view this as an investment in quality family time. Flexible Pay: Open to $1 - $40 per hour or $125 - $500 per month , based on experience, preparation, and the value you bring. Sell Me: Tell me why you're an amazing DM! What makes your games special? What do you bring that others do not? Reliability and a great fit for our family group are paramount. Convince me you're the DM we've been looking for! Interested? Please reply here or message me! Tell me about yourself, your DM style, why you're reliable, and why you'd be a great fit for our family game. Links to profiles/reviews are welcome. Let's chat!

Hi Folks my names Connor and I've been a Dm for 6 years and it is my all time favourite game. I started originally because of watching Critical Role and wanting to enjoy it with my friends but I'm sure with your experience you know that if your the one who wanted to play it first you end up DMing for it. From then on I became the forever dm and have run 4 homebrew games in that time (some running for years) and many modules from Wizards of the Coast. I love this game and wanted to do it for more than a hobby so I joined Startplaying :). The way I like to run games is typically a Rules as written but if someone is using their class or a spell in a way that makes sense then I'm willing to work with that way of thinking, I love the creativity it brings out of people. Voices wise I do try but I am no voice actor haha. As far as reliability goes I've been responcible for scheduling all the Dnd games I've ever ran and have only dropped out due to a emergency a handful of times in those 6 years. Otherwise I am commited it frustates me when people plan to join you then cancel at the last minute those kind of players in the past I have had no problem with removing from the party because at the end of the day its wasting the other players time if they cancel last moment. (Thats my rant over haha) For your last point I feel I'd be a great fit for your family game because I have the experience! I persuaded (begged) my fiance and her side of the family to start playing DnD a couple of years ago so I have plenty of experience with teaching new players and I've ran games with my fiances teenage cousins. I hope this is what you were wanting in a response the last thing I want to say is that while I have a lot of experience in that games as a hole and I'm confident in running games ,virtual tabletops I'm not as experienced with so with that in mind I'm not expecting the amount you are offering the lucky dm and I am more than happy to discuss with you what a suitable amount would be . I look forward to hearing from you! :) Startplaying Profile: https://startplaying.games/gm/cmb9lkkga001o1fv40llpvqf0
Hello! My name is Han , and I’m a professional English tutor and experienced Dungeon Master based in Korea. I’ve been running Dungeons & Dragons games for over 10 years for friends and students of all ages. I can confidently offer you and your family a great time as a fully committed and reliable Dungeon Master. What I Bring to the Table I am kind and understanding. If you ever struggle with the game or if something gets in the way of your enjoyment, I’ll be there to support you in the best way I can. Creating a safe, welcoming space for every player is always my priority. I am dedicated. I always put my players first and work hard to ensure they have the best possible experience. I regularly seek feedback from other DMs and writers, spend hours each week refining the campaign, and go out of my way to support players’ character development. Barring any emergencies, I’ll run your games consistently and with a passionate heart. I am creative. My players often tell me they’re surprised by clever plot twists or grow attached to the NPCs they meet. I aim to create a world that’s immersive, full of imagination, and constantly evolving. You can expect a challenging campaign that will test your wit, creativity, and decision-making skills. I am inquisitive. Through Dungeons & Dragons, I explore meaningful questions about life. Your characters will face moral dilemmas, and the choices they make will shape not only their own fate but also the world around them. Because what’s a good story without real consequences? I am collaborative. In my games, the rules won’t hold you back. I’m flexible and open to adjusting things to suit your playstyle. Bring your ideas to the table — we’ll work together to build something fun, memorable, and uniquely yours. Campaign Introduction: The Riders’ Tale I invite you to experience my custom-built D&D campaign — the result of over twenty years of world-building. If your family is looking to embark on a journey filled with rewarding storytelling, thrilling adventures, and thought-provoking choices, you’ll find The Riders’ Tale truly unforgettable. Bond through shared struggles, face meaningful decisions together, and overcome challenges that will permanently shape the fate of your characters — and the world they inhabit. Story Overview The world is on the brink of collapse. Albion, once a kingdom of glory and honor, is now weighed down by war debts, corrupted by foreign powers, and haunted by betrayal. The great hero-king, Atlas the Lion of Albion, once rose against the infamous Riders of the Apocalypse… but his quest ended in tragedy. His own son, seduced by power, betrayed him and was reborn as the Rider of War. Now, with the Riders gaining strength and chaos spreading across the land, new heroes must rise — not just to fight, but to question, explore, and shape the fate of a kingdom on the edge. What role will your family play in this living, breathing story?
