I have notice striking difficulties while trying to communicate with specific people of the group, or to be more specific excluding other from the information presented. I propose to you an extra chat feature that can be accessed like a chat room, wherein the DM can control many rooms at once. Within, he can add Player 1(P1) - Player 5(P5), for example, into a chat room, while leaving out P6. The variations may differ depending on the DM's digression, and many rooms can be open at a time with easy navigation tabs to divide them. This way P1 will be in chat room 1 with P3 and P5, but P4,P2,andP6 can't see what is being discussed among the four of them (assuming the DM is in the room as well). I noticed this issue when in a Ravenloft throwback overlayed to play as a 4th edition campaign my DM had set up. Straud the main antagonist had trapped me and another player in a room and a discussion broke out. It was a pain to type two whispers of the same message to each person (the other Player Character and the DM) so that everyone involved in the private conversation knew what was said. I have little proficiency with programming and wouldn't know the process or painstake required to commit to such and endeavor, but the thought is there for the taking if you see a potential for its implementation. I imagined even further that as far as within each chat room, if two players shared the same chat, but others in other chat rooms did not, ex. P1 and P2 are in a room, and P2 and P3 are in an other, but P4, P2, and P3 are in a third, a message can come up in each of their specific rooms from the other rooms with an affix of (chat room 3 from Player: John Smith):. This way P2 and P3 would see it in their other respective chat rooms. This could make communication between players much easier for the DM as he can place a chat room for each Player Character individually, and as those Player Characters are in a chat room with two others removed from the rest of the party, the DM can type a message specific to them that will be received in the chat room they're in without having the DM worrying about them missing the flashing light of a new message in one chat tabs, or even missing a whisper sent in your already implemented chat window. All this can be controlled by the DM only to reduce side chatter that payers might open up a full room removed of the DM. If the DM so wishes he can assign a room that he may leave open, but himself can leave, allowing his party to discuss and plan without his knowledge; progression may be hindered greatly if everyone is busy I.M.ing jokes instead of playing the game. Just a suggestion, I hope it helps.
