Map completly erased itself. Blank page with drawings only.

Detailed Description of the Problem So ive been working on a map named dungeon 1 on my Ebberon: Khorvaire campaign. There were dozens of tokens and a grid layout and and entire map with GM interface notes. Suddenly without any warning I logged back in today to find the entire map wiped blank. I know for a fact that I didnt accidently erase it. Doing so would take too much effort to not notice. Steps to Reproduce the Problem I havent been able to reproduce the glitch. It hasnt erased any other maps on my campaign. Everything else seems intact. This is a one time event that has never happend before. Description of Your Setup (Browser + Version, Operating System, etc.) I am on a mac desktop running windows 7 on bootcamp with firefox as the browser. I had to install java 5 in order to run a token creator I downloaded. Im personally hoping its some sort of glitch that will fix itself because ive spent countless hours working on new creatures and traps that were stored on this map. Thanks for your time
Did you do all this work in a single session or over multiple days? I've also pointed the devs do this so as we get more info from you and them we will see what we can do to try and fix the problem and hopefully recover your work!
So I did some toying around with the glitch. Which im sure is a glitch now. There were several red rectangle drawings place in rooms i need worked on. For some odd reason these drawings remained on the grid even though everything else had dissapeared. They were not important so i tried deleting them. when i clicked "undo" to bring the drawings back. they appeared glitched out at the top left side of the screen. not in theyre original locations.
The map was a project over this past week. Thanks Eric D. for your help and best of luck!
As an added note I logged onto my HP windows 7 laptop on firefox and the issues with that map "Dungeon1" still persist.
That was very odd. I restored all the graphics on the page from our nightly backups. Let me know if it happens again.

So you're saying you did that last night? Or after there was already an issue and the graphics were all missing?
YOU SIR ARE A LIFESAVER! Thank you ever soo much! Great service! love roll20.net

I am still so very gracious that you restored most of the map. I noticed something odd. The map and background and tokens are from 2 days ago. but the GM text is recent. From late last night. I dont mind remaking some of the traps and replacing tokens but I thought the info might be useful to help you determine what happend. The map Dungeon 1 had been sitting for about 2 days. I logged in last night working on a new map dungeon 2 and editing non-map campaign stuff. Things that ive done recently on that map was I made some new tokens to replace existing PC tokens that were outdated.
"things that ive done recently on that map" was referring to Dungeon 1.
speaking of backups, how much data do you back up, how often, how long is it kept for, are they straight full backups with de-duplication, differentials, or do you just use a canned software solution, or is it just a thumb stick you throw in your desk at the end of the day, lol.

It should be a snapshot of how the graphics were as of when the backup ran on April 16th (which was around 5 AM CDT). I only restored the graphics because for some reason the text and drawings parts of the map seemed fine. So that's why some of the text/drawings may be newer. I used the April 16th backup because I wasn't sure when the problem occurred but you said it was fine yesterday.
Actually I went and looked it looks like the backup from this morning is fine, too. So that would be as of 5 AM this morning the stuff was still there on your page. Can you think of anything you did between 5AM CDT this morning and when you noticed the issue?  If you want me to restore the graphics from that newer snapshot I can, but it would overwrite any changes you've made to the graphics on the Dungeon 1 page since I restored it previously, so you may not want to do that if you already started fixing things. Let me know.

As with any web service this size, the answer is "it's complicated." It depends which pieces of data you're talking about, for example (Account data? Campaign chat archives? Forum posts? In-game data? etc...) In all cases we have backups that are done at the very least on a nightly basis and stored off-site with storage providers with guaranteed redundancy (think AWS S3, although not all data is stored there).  Specifically the data for the campaigns themselves (the in-game stuff) is captured nightly, stored in several different off-site locations, and kept in a format that I can easily pull from it to restore it (like I did here) for 7 days (so I have a daily snapshot going back 7 days for each campaign) -- the most recent of those daily snapshots is kept indefinitely (so we always have a backup of the newest version of a campaign available, even if that campaign was last edited a month ago). We actually have longer-term backups that go back farther than that but it would take much more effort to pull from them (they are there for catastrophe recovery, not small one-off campaign issues like these).
Hi Riley. actually the most recent backup from 5am this morning would be perfect. go ahead and load up everything, as i did very few changes on dungeon 1 within the last 12 hours.

Okay, restored. So -- after 5 AM CDT this morning, what did you do exactly in your Campaign? And when exactly did you first notice the issue? Just trying to see if we can get any clues to what happened...
I recently had some friends over to hang out. We didnt actually do any D&D but they wanted to pick new tokens and character portraits. I think what happend is i tore out the images before deleting the information from the map and character profiles. Basically I went into my recent uploads to organize and remove the old portraits and tokens without deleting the tokens sitting on the map. I use the character attribute function connected to my tokens to make player tokens easy to manage. I believe that connection is what caused the glitch. I also uploaded some new tokens for future use. all of these are available and working fine.
