clear chat log so player's can't see my prep

Maybe I am doing something wrong. But when I am working on my campaign I spam the chat log with various macros that effectively gives away what monsters I have coming up and what their abilities/macros are. I can clear the chat log permanently but obviously that is not always the best option. I can clear the current chat log but that seems to only clear what is on my screen. Am I correct in assuming that my players can log in and scroll up to see what I have been working on?? Is there a solution?

You could whisper all your macro tests to the GM...

Another option is to do what I do: Archive each session's chatlog elsewhere (I have a game wiki), and then blow away the log between sessions. I clear the archive after every monster-testing session, and again the morning of the game.

To permanently clear the archive you can go to the Campaign Details page for your campaign. Clearing the chat log inside the campaign clears the current log for you only and only until you refresh.
Thanks all. I know how to clear the log permanently but that seems extreme. I see there is no built in alternative, I will just copy/paste the log between sessions and then wipe it when I work on things. Odd thing, when I copy/pasted the log (which wasn't that big actually) recently, it crashed my Word (Mac) after a long pause trying to paste it in. Is it just txt or is there some huge amount of data in there?

If you copy it, try paste as plain text otherwise the formatting from the chat could carry over.

Another alternative. Use "/w GM" or "/gmroll" when you are testing your macros and then change them to normal. This way you can test them in a way that only you can see.
Or you could create a copy of your campaign to use just for playtesting.
