Friday 10/11/2014 Session Report and XP/GOLD

***See bottom of this post for XP and GOLD info.*** The group of ten adventurers traveled directly to the Palace of the Vampire Queen via raft to the island and the old overgrown road leading from the shore. They decisively entered the far left set of doors at the front entrance, not encountering anything immediately. The group took notice of a portrait titled "Lord Virez" and attempted to remove it from the wall; immediately the portrait protested and began yelling help when it was not promptly returned. The group attempted to throw it outside of the palace, but it disappeared into a puff of white smoke when it entered the sunlight outside the door. When the group returned to the painting's spot, they saw that the painting had resumed its original position and was silent again. However, it was at this time that three average-sized house cats dropped from holes in the poorly maintained ceiling, falling upon several of the party members, injuring one of the magic users. The party quickly obliterated the three cats, taking souvenirs of the encounter, and capturing one of the cats alive into a thick canvas bag. The group then proceeded to explore one of the northern areas from the hallway, and encountered three goblins playing cards. The group similarly dispatched the goblins, taking one prisoner. The prisoner remained uncooperative despite the efforts of the group, but Sugarbunny the elf-warrior princess discovered a secret passage. After opening the passage, Mi'Gron spent many minutes searching passage for traps, and was set upon by a Gelatinous Cube unbeknownst to most of his party. Mi'Gron suffered a mighty blow from the thick pseudo-pod appendage of the cube, but was pulled to safety by Sugarbunny who just happened to glance inside the passage while the others were looting the room. The group, called to action, fortunately dispatched the gelatinous cube before any casualties were sustained. About this time, the goblin became more cooperative after being shoved into the secret passage with the cube. He then led them to the location of the goblin's treasure, through the dark winding corridors of the secret passage. When the group arrived outside a doorway, they listened inside and heard the rasp of steel as the goblins inside were putting on their weapons and equipment. The group quietly opened the door, and threw inside the carcass of one of the cats, promptly shutting the door, causing the goblins to argue with each other about which of them was playing a practical joke. A minute or so later, the group quietly opened the door again, and tossed in the cat from the bag, quickly closing the door. This time, the goblins were dumbstruck at the appearance of cat from out-of-nowhere. The party heard hissing and yowling of the cat followed by a thump and thud as it was silenced. When they next opened the door, the goblins saw them and a quick battle was engaged; the goblins were left dead in their own blood. The group, thinking the area was a dead end, almost struck down the captive goblin for leading them into a trap, before the goblin to tell them that the treasure was located there. The group pulled on a rusty sword displayed on the wall, revealing a chest with an ornate cobra-headed lock. The group quickly found the corresponding key from their encounter with the two-headed goblin from days before, and found a large pile of gold. The group decided to leave the area, but while they were walking down the corridor, they heard the shllurrrrp shllllllik of a gelatinous cube approaching from an intersecting corridor. The group took positions on either side of the corridor just as the cube emerged. Within the first moments of battle, the cube reached forward, grabbing Vayne the fighting-man whole, crushing him outright and then pulling it into itself it began to quickly desolve the corpse. In a moment of panic, Ondraedon and Ramkus fled towards the goblin's card-playing/training room and shut the secret entrance tightly, while the others in the group were blocked off from exiting the area. Mi'Gron and others desperately threw their last oil flasks, and opened fire with crossbows and throwing daggers. Barely was the gelatinous cube stopped before it reached them; it collapsed in death, releasing the grotesque muscle-stripped form of Vayne. The party regrouped in the goblin's room, and set forth to return to town. Just as they were opening the front doors to leave, the rusty metallic squeal of the hinges attracted Nekros who had been wandering nearby. Nekros and his skeleton and zombie horde gave chase to the party as they dashed outside onto the mountain road; the zombies quickly lagging behind. For over a mile the party ran, before Nekros overcame them and they were forced to turn and face him. The group immediately put their hands up and offered gold, wine, and a silver ankh for their release. Nekros, immediately made them throw the silver ankh into the woods, and decided to accept their other offerings. He released them, telling them not to return to the Palace, and made his way back. The group camped in the woods for the night once they came down the mountain, and returned to Stilt Town the next day. --------------------- The following Characters earned 166xp and 53 gold, 5 silver, and 7 copper in the first part of the game: Kaizer Eezo Vesryn Ondraedon Ramkus Mi'Gron Vayne Varon The following Characters earned 175xp and 60 gold, 6 silver, and 3 copper in the second part of the game: Kaizer Eezo Vesryn Ondraedon Ramkus Mi'Gron Vayne

Big Fucking Shark. Edit: Also, massive well done dudes, really looking forward to reading the report.
We would have come back with another 100 gp (and the xp for it), but we ran into that bleeping necromancer again and had to bargain for our lives.
like right after everyone left apparently
Not to mention the 4 bottles of wine the necromancer took.

Right after we (well Jesse/Mi'gron) finished off the second gelatinous cube. We were back to the room where the exit to the palace was and there he was with his horde of skeletons and zombies. We were able to run for it, and reached the woods, but we failed on the throw to evade. Fortunately our GM informed us we could take a chance and parley, so we did. We had to throw the silver ankh into the swamp, give him 100 gp and Rich gave up 4 bottles of wine. (Note to self, bring more wine when returning to the palace!) Although it's against the intent of my character (cleric), I will be getting a sling and stones to use in dire situations. Our ranged attack was very limited when we encountered the second 4HD cube. We did lose one warrior to it...
I agree with the sling and stone, also if anyone wants a blunt weapon i have vayne's femur :D
Yes, everyone please splurge on ranged, I had to take out that blob almost singlehandedly and there were a few tense moments. Oh, and also, Freddy, I think there were less skeletons and Zombies this time, which means we can slowly pick them off adventure by adventure and kill the Necromancer if we cant do them all in at once.
I'll post a full description of events when I have some spare time.
Yes everyone should have some sort of ranged weapon. It's a lot better to take out an enemy before they can even reach you. I would also like to state a suggestion of maybe having a thief scout ahead (hidden in shadows of course) so that we are able to spot the enemy before he can spot us. I know it's going to be risky for the character scouting, but it would give us a huge advantage in combat.
Standard would be, Thief is scouting ahead [blank] number of feet. But that thief would be leading the group. If encounter occurs, group would be [blank] number of feet away.
I just want to say that this Fridays game, and my first foray into DnD was a real blast. All you guys (and lady) where super cool about me being a complete novice and even put up with me. Sadly, this friday I will be camping and it really makes me sad not to be there when we go back to the Palace. However as long as we don't clear it, I will be there the Friday after.
The Palace of the Vampire Queen will take months if not longer to rescue the Princess. Don't worry about missing a Friday. I am running an extra game this Wednesday if you can make that though.
so what exactly are wensday games?
So basically Wednesday will either be Palace of the Vampire Queen or the Strongmoor location, depending on interest and number of people. I'll leave it up to you guys. If you decide to go to Strongmoor, its about a day's length away by ship, but you should be able to catch a ride from a passing trading vessel. You'll have to pay about a gold piece per person for passage, and we'll see if there are any encounters at sea, and then you'll be in Strongmoor. Its the same process going the other way as well. In Strongmoor, the group has been tasked with finding some lady's missing father who worked in the Sewers.
So will there be a vote to what we play tomorrow?
Yep.
Whens that going down?
yea about what time
I don't get home on Wednesdays until late, about 7ish EST. If you guys don't mind me jumping in a bit late I am down for tomorrow for whatever we end up doing.

It's been starting 5 CST, which is 7 EST. I'm always late because I get off work at 5 CST.
Feel free to join whenever you are ready. We start talking about 5pm, usually spend over half an hour working out technical difficulties, and then eventually someone inevitably dicks around in town for another half hour.
Hey, lets go question the hunters wife and get stonewalled for a half hour!
The facts: Huntsman may be spending more time away from home than usual. The wife and the family have become more and more isolated the past few weeks. The wife seems afraid. One (or is it two?) of the family's children have gone missing in the past few months. Even the townsfolk have commented about the family's strangeness.
Poor woman sounds like she needs our help!
She's a witch and we should burn her with fire!
Come now good man, I think an interrogation is in order. We should go to the sherrif and say that her strange actions may be endangering the town and she should be brought in for questioning.
I say that we leave the old woman and her missing children, more than likely we'll stumble upon the children, or rather, their corpses, and that'll sort that. Also, time wasted that could be used on finding that sweet sweet loot. Pumped about tonight? I think so!
Me too! (But I still say we do something about that sketchy woman)

Gorg like loot, not women and children!
If we take a step back and look, for the moment, her situation is as bad as it can be. There is an entire village of people that could attempt to do something to either help or change. If we leave it to run it's natural course then something in the way of a result will develop. Either the woman dies, the children come home, or everyone dies... either way, we'll be able to see some sort of development, follow the tracks of the killer, etc etc. We'll get the gang together on Friday and storm the door if it makes everyone a little more at peace. :D
Can a magic user wield a weapon other than a staff (and spells of course!)? Preparing a third character for emergencies.

Daggers and a sling, but thats about it, and you are right Chris.
Freddy B. said: Can a magic user wield a weapon other than a staff (and spells of course!)? Preparing a third character for emergencies. Magic-users may only use daggers or the magic staff (not normal staves) if they possess an intelligence bonus. Daggers can be thrown, and are normally retrievable unless they aren't. Don't count on doing much during combat as a magic-user at lower levels.
ok so 7pm est? im there :) count vesryn in
I will be a bit late tonight but Lucien and Borbo will be there asap!
