Roll20 Characters and Campaign Characters

Hello, can someone please help me understand this two different ways to manage characters? We used to create characters in campaign and use them with the mobile app when we are able to play on person, now that the mobile app is a bit outdated and does not work on recent devices, I was told to switch to Roll20 Characters web app. I've tried to play with it a bit, but it looks like I can import campaign characters into Roll20 Characters and then they become two separate entities. Is there a way to use the campaign characters without loosing the link? We just want to use the app when around a real table, and keep using the campaign while we play on the vtt. Thank you in advance Fra
Hey! The steps for this are a little convoluted, to account for both "I want my character outside of the game" and "I want my character in the game, but accessed separately". You have to import the character from Characters to the VTT to enable this link. If you already made it in the VTT, you can export it, then import it, and it will import as a separate character (you can then delete the old character, or rename it and keep it as a backup just in case).
Holy cow, that's convoluted, I'd love for a link button or option, I usually prepare the characters in game then assign them, I don't understand why players cannot import a linked version directly, but thanks for the help, I have been able to follow your steps and have linked characters. The only thing I don't get is why you say " but accessed separately", my players just want to see their sheets on an app when playing around the table, and inside the game when playing online.

Hi Francesco G.,  I'd like to provide a clarification to Nicole's comment. It is accurate but incomplete.  Player clicks +Character in the game: * They can go to Roll20 Characters and the character will be waiting for them there. They do not need to do anything, it is fully linked to the character in the game. GM clicks +Character in the game, then assigns the character to a player:  * The player will need to go to Roll20 Characters, import the character from the game.  * This does not link the character to the game, it is a copy. <--- this is by design (there are valid reasons) * The Player may then send the character back to the game, yes this creates a duplicate character in the game but the character is now linked to Roll20 Characters.  Warning: before the player sends the character back to the game the original character in the game should be renamed to prevent issues.  If it is your intent to use the character both in game and at the table then Roll20 Characters is not a bad option. You should be able to use Roll20 Characters via a tablet, and I have heard some folks can get it to work ok on a phone, but I've never tried it.
Hello, I had a game running with characters already assigned to everyone, but no one saw characters already present in the Roll20 Characters app, so can you please clarify " They can go to Roll20 Characters and the character will be waiting for them there. They do not need to do anything, it is fully linked to the character in the game. "? Thank you and best regards Fra Gauss said: Hi Francesco G.,  I'd like to provide a clarification to Nicole's comment. That is the difference. For the players to see it in Roll20 Characters without doing anything they have to be the one to click +Character inside the game.  If you clicked +Character and assigned it to them then they have to go through the process of importing it to Roll20 Characters, renaming the existing character in the game, then exporting it to the game.  Note: Roll20 Characters is not an "app". (Want to make sure you aren't confusing it with the Roll20 Companion App.)
Thank you for the clarification, I usually am the one creating the characters, I'll try to have them click and see if that makes a difference Gauss said: Francesco G. said: Hello, I had a game running with characters already assigned to everyone, but no one saw characters already present in the Roll20 Characters app, so can you please clarify " They can go to Roll20 Characters and the character will be waiting for them there.
