Am I the only one?

Am I the only one who finds that Jumpgate has done little to improve the Roll20 experience?  I have found it to be extremely buggy. I had to switch to Firefox because it ran slower than a potato, and most recently, whenever I or a player edits a handout/character sheet, it's blank afterwards. It's tedious to constantly reload Roll20 through a session, and I didn't see a fix here on the forums.

Hi Northeast_geek! I can only report anecdotally, but I have moved to Jumpgate last year and have found the experience to be overwhelmingly positive. Yes, there are occasional issues, but I don't think they are any more common than they were on the classic engine. And the 30-40 added features more than make up for it. The bug you are reporting regarding a sheet or handout being blank after editing is new to me, to the best of my recollection. Have you captured a  Console Log ( Chrome , Firefox ) and filed a  Help Center Request ? That would be the best step toward tracking this down.

I’m using a Jumpgate game to manage my Art Library with no issues and only benefits: more uploads per batch, case-sensitive.  I’m running a The One Ring 2e Starter Set game following on from an Over Hill and Under Hill game during Roll20Con with no issues except transparent tokens with tinting not showing to players. The nameplates are all I need anyway.  I’m preparing to run a 13th Age 2e campaign in Jumpgate, and I’m expecting no more issues than The One Ring .
I appreciate the responses. I haven't submitted to the help center, but will later today. I understand the "improvements," but as someone who just wants to share images and share a map so we can get together to play some TTRPG. I don't care about the bells about many of the added features. Glad it's working well for most, though, as a casual TTRPG player, Roll20 need to try and keep up with the other VTTs is alienating for me.nd takes away from the simplicity of the original offering. Also, the fact that they are forcing all games to use the Jumpgate leaves a bad taste in my mouth.  Cheers

It is at least 13yrs old.  That is ancient in terms of development and capabilities.  While it has been updated over the years that is not the same as changing the engine to a newer more responsive engine. Eventually tech that old will need to be sunset no matter what you do to improve it. You are constrained by the original setup.

A number of older systems have been retired: Legacy Dynamic Lighting, and the text editor are two examples. The best way forward is to make the new system better, through bug reports and fixes, alongside all the new stuff.

I much prefer Jumpgate. There are some tricks to make life easier with the 2024 DnD sheet...for example, I like the old way of listing Multiattack at the top of actions 2024 sheet is alphabetical sorting only. To make this happen in the 2024 sheet, I add blank spaces before the title. The spaces don't show on the sheet after you save, but it moves it to first. A reorder option for actions would be great. As to the benefits of Jumpgate: Dynamic lighting works better Options for Bastions and shops The things you have to manually set up on the old sheet are automated on the new one With Jumpgate, you can use both sheets if needed With Jumpgate, you can use features that speed things up...like framerate, experimental settings, etc Legacy is going away Of note, I use Firefox almost all of the time. Chrome glitches and stutters for me on roll20...but I run multiple programs at the same time (like OBS). The fastest browser for roll20, for me, is EDGE. I use it for prep work like token uploads, art, and handout editing.

Thanks for the post, VTTeamPlayers! A couple of those items were specific to the 2024 sheet rather than to Jumpgate, but I concur on your findings. As for your comment about Edge: That's a very good point. The only thing about the two officially supported browsers is that Roll20 will expend significant effort to keep them workable. If anyone has a better experience on a particular browser, then that is their best browser to use!

Some players with surpreme gaming computers did not feel any difference, but others find bigger maps borderline unplayable. Fps drops to unbearable amounts. Maps take around 3-5minutes to load. Token updates for bar-Values etc lags. For me as a GM which uses Maps with a lot of different token to provide the most interactive game situation possible it is a clear step back. Yes Maps with nearly no token or map images work fine and have nice effects. But this is just no realistic environment, the only reason we still use Roll20 is because they work very very well with big maps and loads of unique token. This is the field, where Roll20 shines and the competitors cannot reach that quality. I really hope we can keep legacy for as long as we want, because for us Jumpgate is a clear step back in quality of life at the current state.

Lgs, how long ago did you try the conversion? I have a huge game that I can load on an old Chromebook (not great performance of course, but not noticeably different from legacy). If the attempt was more than 6 months ago, I'd recommend giving it another try.
I have run two campaigns now with Jumpgate, and switching to Firefox helped with some of the performance issues (slow page loads, freezes). I still prefer legacy. I hope that it continues to get better, and since I've reported the NPC issue I was having, it seems to have improved. As I've already stated, one of the reasons that I've stayed with Roll20 all these years is because of its stripped-down and ease of use for the casual RP'er. My friends and I just want to get together and roll some digital dice together without feeling like I need to devote hours to learning a new platform. If that's going to be the case, I'll guess we'll just switch to Foundry, it's an all-around better VTT imo, and the learning curve has what's kept me from taking the plunge. Lastly, if you're enjoying Jumpgate, then by all means, my opinion is just that, just my opinion, you continue to do you.
