THE RIFTS SETTING: Created in the 1980s & 1990s the Rifts setting is a post-apocalyptic Earth set around 300 years after a catastrophic event caused the unparalleled death of millions of people all at once. Scholars theorize that this in turn created a massive energy release that triggered vast and hidden ancient magical ley lines to suddenly burst to life all across the planet which killed billions more and reshaped the very surface of the planet. Rifts, tears in the very fabric of reality itself, opened up along the network of ley lines and countless creatures of every imaginable origin and kind came into our world. Some of these beings were benevolent, but others were incomprehensibly alien and demonic forces who came as conquerors forcing mankind from their pedestals of power. Humanity entered a dark age like never before as they struggled to survive in this new world of supreme danger. Centuries passed and powerful civilizations such as the Coalition States and the Federation of Magic were founded, allowing humanity a spark of hope however small, that eventually they could reclaim what was lost. Beyond these bastions of safety however, the lands are still full of unknowable horrors. 2). EXPLORATION/COMBAT CAMPAIGN PLAYSTYLE: This campaign will attempt to focus on a balance of exploration/roleplaying and combat. 3). EMERGENT STORYTELLING: Initially the main campaign story will be light and I will use emergent storytelling as appropriate. I plan to avoid a linear GM style as much as possible as well. 4). ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE: Vast ley lines of raw magical energy crisscross the planet and countless dimensional rifts threaten to warp reality itself. There will be no limit to what you can experience during this campaign, whether it makes sense or not, it will be possible. Rifts Earth is now a unique hub of interdimensional convergence! Game Rules and Expectations 1). I'm returning after more than 20 years to the Rifts Palladium Ruleset: please be patient with me. I welcome any help from those who are already familiar with Rifts Palladium rules during the game. 2). Rules don't trump story or fun! I will sometimes break the rules or ignore them entirely for the sake of keeping the game fun and smooth! I reserve the right to bend/break them for other reasons too such as ensuring the game fits my vision. 3). Who I'm looking for: I'm looking for players who are already familiar with Rifts and the rules who are creative, fun, and positive! (exceptions can be made of course) 4). Session Duration: Ensure you can stay the full duration of 4 hours before you decide this game is right for you (Seriously, don't apply if you will be dead tired and/or busy during this time lol)! Rifts Campaign Summary This Rifts campaign will begin somewhere in the western North American continent. The year is 109 PA and you and a community of survivors coexist together in a time-worn structure who's origin is lost to time, repurposed into a vast survival shelter for those looking to live a normal life, away from the horrors of the world outside. For now at least, the people of this place attempt to forget the nightmares of this reality. Life is hard and only the strong survive. The Earth of this age is barely recognizable and the decaying ruins from before the fall of mankind litter the landscape. The secrets from the Golden Age still lie hidden within many of the hulking monoliths, luring any scavengers and explorers brave enough to tread their depths.
