Mature Narrative D&D 5e Campaign | Story-Driven| Heavy RP & Consequences | Weekly | Saturday 8pm CST

The world waits — but not for a hero. It waits for you . Across kingdoms, empires, and shadowed wilds, countless threads are left untied: wars brewing on distant horizons, ancient ruins whispering of forgotten truths, powers rising in courts and in the dark corners between them. There is no prophecy. No chosen one. No set path. The future will be written by the people who take it into their hands. Your character’s ambitions, fears, and past deeds will leave their mark. Will you rise to lead nations or plunge them into ruin? Will you unearth forbidden knowledge or bury it forever? Will your name be sung in triumph — or cursed for generations? In this tale, there is no script. Every alliance, betrayal, and sacrifice will be born from your choices. Every victory and tragedy will be yours to claim. This is not a story you follow. This is a story you create. Our long-term, story-focused homebrew campaign has already begun, but unfortunately, a few players departed due to changes in their schedules. We’re looking to add 1–2 committed roleplayers to bolster our ranks . A possible 3rd slot may open depending on applicant fit. This campaign places a strong emphasis on: Character-driven storytelling Grounded worldbuilding with fantastical elements Political, social, and psychological themes Minimal combat (swift and dangerous when it occurs) Roleplay-first gameplay A unique pact-based magic system Combat is rare, swift, and dangerous. Roleplay, character development, and consequences are the core of the experience. If you enjoy mature, immersive, and thoughtful campaigns where your choices truly shape the world, this may be the perfect fit. We’re looking for players who enjoy : Deep, character-driven storytelling Realistic worlds with moral weight Heavy roleplay (textual or verbal) Political intrigue, psychology, and mature themes Lore-rich settings and collaborative plotting We are not a good fit for: Power-gaming Combat-focused players High fantasy expectations or anime-style heroics Players who dislike realistic consequences Campaign Synopsis: Ruleset: 2014 Starting level: 1 (we're still at the early stages of the campaign) Equipment: Starting equipment Campaign Status: Free Medium: Discord Participation: Vocal communication Session Length: 2 - 3 hours Region: North America, New Zealand and Australia Please read the full campaign description & expectations before applying : ➡️ https://docs.google.com/document/d/1F3aJ3DlSni70VtpqHQKc2ccWJlPjiPL9TGp9XOto77g/edit?usp=sharing Applicants of all RP experience levels are welcome — what matters most is maturity, commitment, and interest in long-form storytelling. Applications and interviews required (details in the linked document).
I would categorize my RP experience between Intermediate and Advanced. I've been roleplaying online for a couple of years now. I initially started roleplaying as a kid when a friend of mine ran a couple of PF1E one-shots for me. Much later during the pandemic I started watching CR and became familiar with 5e. It's been about a year since I've played in a 5e game, since then I've been introduced to many other systems and styles of RPGs. Nevertheless, I'm still knowledgeable when it comes to 5e rules and mechanics. What I enjoy most in a campaign is immersive roleplaying and storytelling. As I'd stated before I've been on a break from 5e for quite some time. It was hard for me to find a group who held the same standard for RP and immersion rather than focusing on combat or achieving powerful character builds. Ideally (given what I've read from your description) this campaign will offer engaged players/and a DM fully invested in immersive roleplay, who want to have meaningful interactions for the sake of character development between PCs/NPCs. I expect vast amounts of lore and worldbuilding as the group explores and delves into different parts of this world. I expect that should I bring to the campaign a deep and descriptive backstory, that it affects; is introduced into the main narrative (if relevant) and not simply ignored. I dislike when DMs/Players meta-game too much to the point where my immersion is compromised. I dislike players who aren't capable of sharing the spotlight and tend to talk over others. I dislike players who simply show up and fail to engage with the narrative or rest of the party in any meaningful way. I dislike when a DM railroads the narrative to the point where players lose their freedom/agency in the story. What I've read so far seems comprehensive and I have no questions. If anything, I'm more curious about the specifics of the world/lore. I'm on PST zone and Saturdays are in the middle of my weekend. I have no other games or commitments that day and can confidently say I my attendance will be regular. Should any real-life issues occur, I'm great at communicating whether I'm going to be late or need to skip a session. RP-oriented games are a requirement for me at this point. From my experience in the past if campaigns/players aren't as invested in the story as me I know that the game is either not fun/fulfilling or soon to end. If everyone involved is like-minded in that they prioritize heavy RP and storytelling, then to me that indicates the game likely will have longevity, is fun/fulfilling, and in turn keeps the DM/players wanting to come back for more. I would need some more information on the lore of this campaign before I committed to a character concept, however I do have an idea I've been pondering. Essentially the build is a Drunken Master Monk with a multi-class into Barbarian. The concept would be "A monk learns that the way to achieve enlightenment involves being centered and untouchable by the world around you. To live or act with emotion is to become uncentered and unenlightened. But what if emotions weren't seen as flaws, but as tools? A monk whose training and meditation has locked his emotions from manifesting, however through his experimentation with alcohol and drinking he's figured out a key to channeling certain emotions when he needs them."
1. Somewhere between beginner and intermediate. I've been around TTRPG culture for a long time, but have little experience actually playing. The handful of campaigns I started with friends only lasted less than ten sessions before scheduling always killed them. 2. A really cool/interesting world is one of the biggest drawls for me, but when it comes to gameplay, I'm primarily in it for the story and roleplay. There's nothing more satisfying than being immersed in a world and feeling like the party's actions and backstories have an effect on how it develops and the narrative plays out. That, and its great to find a really solid group of characters who mesh well together. 3. All the things you listed as no-no's for this campaign are the sort of things I dislike, and I would just add favoritism or heavy handed railroading to the list. I've no problem with DM's pushing us down a path for the sake of a story, but it shouldn't feel like our actions have zero impact. I'm also not big on outright PvP. 4. I like what I see quite a bit. My only reservation is session length. I can't seem to find how long they are, and if they exceed 4 hours, that could prove an issue for my sleep schedule. 5. I very rarely miss sessions, and don't intend to change things here. Saturdays are almost always my free day, so informing you ahead of time if I won't be there should not be an issue. 6. I just really like a good story. I'm writing a novel as a side gig just for love of the medium, and that's the #1 reason I like TTRPG's. Roleplay lets me inhabit and have fun with the characters I regularly think up, and gives me a lot of joy. 7. I have a couple concepts. One of them is a more serious in nature, a person struggling with demons in multiple senses of the word. The other is a bit over the top, not in the sense of being stupid, but rather, a very strong p ersonality whose arc involves learning to not be an asshole, but also has a strong motivation of his own. I can go into both characters in more detail, and would 100% understand if you think the latter may not be conducive to your setting.
Friend requests received! I also added the approximate length of the sessions to the original post.
Your RP experience (tabletop or text-based): Been gaming since 1985, so if I don't know what I'm doing by now, I'm hopeless. What you enjoy most in a campaign: It's the journey, the discovery. I usually play explorer types for that reason. Seeing what's been cooked up for us always gets me going. What you don’t like: I'm pretty tolerant of most stuff (including pvp within reason) outside extreme sexual situations (I'm a fade-to-black DM/player unless -everyone- at the table's cool with it) and can't *stand* railroading for the life of me. Any reservations towards what you read : It's your world, we just play in it. If I wasn't interested after reading all of that, I would not be replyin'. Your commitment : I can do it. I run 5 groups in a shared world during the weekdays. This will be an opportunity on the other side of the screen for once. What excites you about a player-driven, story-rich campaign ( optional ) : Actions. Have. Consequences. You reap what you sow and if you say or do the wrong thing... (ask me about Vesper... heh) A brief character concept you’d like to play — personality, backstory seeds and goals (optional) : I've got a few. My Minotaur Kineticist known as Slab, my albino Kobold Celestial Warlock (originally with a charisma of 8... but she tries so hard!) known as Razzle, and a couple of others.
