PC Inline Editing is Here for D&D 2024

No More Modals. We’ve heard you loud and clear! As of today, you don’t need to go into modals for any basic sheet editing. PC Inline Editing is live for D&amp;D 2024!&nbsp;&nbsp; Check out our launch video, and try it for yourself in VTT or Roll20 Characters ! <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOJgqpQs2ds" rel="nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOJgqpQs2ds</a> Why This Matters Inline editing cuts straight to the point. Click (or tab to) a field, type, and move on. Tweaking stats, updating actions, and customizing gear all happens right in the sheet without stopping play. Even better, inline editing preserves automation! For example, if you set your AC by manually typing it in, equipping a shield will still bump your AC up by 2, a major improvement over the D&amp;D 2014 sheet! You can always go into AC's settings cog to see everything that's generating the final value. What’s Included Inline editing now covers every core field you rely on during play: Ability scores Hit Dice, Armor Class, Speed Skills, Defenses, Conditions Actions and Spells Equipment and Items Character features If it’s something you regularly touch at the table, you can edit it right where it lives. Give Inline Editing a try and let us know what you think. Your feedback shapes where we go next!
Huge win with this, I am excited for this, will make setting up 2024 npc's so much easier.
This is wonderful to see! Thank you for listening to the feedback given. I was a major perponant of the 2014 Roll20 Sheet and actively worked to convert D&amp;D Beyond users over to your superior product. The launch of the 2024 sheet in it's early state combined with the lack of 2024 integrations on the old sheet was a MAJOR blow to my professional workflow. I nearly had to leave the platform--not because of spite or anything else--just because the new sheet didn't work for ANY of my use cases, and really REALLY didn't want to do that.&nbsp;A while back, I was asked to record my user experience with the sheet by Roll20 as a frequent user, and I spent that 20 minutes to complain about the lack of manual editing among other features. I likely should have been more diplomatic in how I expressed myself there. I was very passionate because the new sheet's missing features, combined with no 2024 integrations on the old sheet left me in a terrible spot professionally. I feel very heard here and appreciate that greatly. As an avid and frequent product user who also drives others to use your compendium, etc, I'm very happy with this change and wanted to take time in expressing that. Thank you. There's so much more I still really need to see in order to fully advocate for your sheet in the way I had prior (basically an option for the classic layout, a return of the old resource trackers systems, less clutter and more customization), but it's great to see everything you're doing to make your product the best in the vtt sphere. Cheers!

Hey Joshua! I’m Brittany from the Roll20 design team. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your feedback. I’m really glad to hear that you feel heard and are happy with the sheet's direction. I wanted to follow up and see if you’d be open to chatting a bit more about other areas of the sheet where you’d like to see improvements. I’d love to better understand your needs and dig into your experience in more detail. If you’re open to it, we could set up a quick call sometime soon. No pressure at all but I wanted to ask! Thanks again and hope we get a chance to connect.
Hey Brittany! Sounds great! Happy to make the time to connect. Just sent you a DM through Roll20.&nbsp; Brittany V. said: Hey Joshua! I’m Brittany from the Roll20 design team. Hello Roll20 Team, First of all, I would like to thank you for the effort you put into providing the best possible experience for your users. I would like to share the following observations, based on my own experience: When using “Add Attack” or “Add Action” , everything works as expected. The system allows us to fill in all the necessary fields to create homebrew actions or custom abilities, which works perfectly at first. However, the issue appears when clicking “Advanced” . All the information previously entered is erased. This does not happen just once, but multiple times, which suggests there may be a programming issue in this part of the system. Second observation: When creating an ability and checking the “Heal” box, the text boxes are duplicated. Normally this might not be a serious problem, but it can negatively affect homebrew-heavy campaigns. Thank you very much for your time and attention. Happy Holidays

I'm happy that you're trying it out and coming back to us with feedback, it's super important to the process. These are on NPCs, right? The duplicate text probably isn't related to the heals, but whether or not the chevron on the right is expanded. This is something we had on our radar before this release, it is annoying. I do see some weirdness with editing on the NPC side that I'm going to ticket and try to resolve ASAP. This release was focused on PCs, we just let it leak a little to the NPC side for the sole reason of "why not, let's make it better there too", so seems like a few weird things slipped through.

"some weirdness" is an understatement. "random data loss" seems more apt.&nbsp; After a few hours of frustration, followed by a bit of rage when the data loss gods aligned to give me the correct setup, but the correct setup now does the wrong thing, I had a thought. And yes, I filed a bug. I understand that a custom compendium is currently out of reach. But could we get a very granular JSON import/export for something like an NPC action? If I could just save my custom actions as JSON in github and copy and paste them into a text box, it would save me so much time. And frustration.
This update sounds like a huge quality-of-life win, especially for keeping the flow going during sessions.&nbsp; Being able to tweak things instantly without breaking immersion reminds me how helpful quick access tools can be, like using Lake County case search &nbsp; when you need clear information without jumping through hoops.&nbsp; Small changes like this really add up when you’re managing a lot at once. Looking forward to seeing how players use this in live play and what improvements come next.
This is great guys. But we still need to see some simple features like a weapon that crits on 19 instead of 20. The warlock sheet has many glitches.

Critical hit thresholds for individual attacks is on our board for work right now! Terry W. said: "some weirdness" is an understatement. We did release some fixes for this on the 18th, as well as rolling back a few of the parts that leaked to NPC views due to shared components but weren't ready for the slightly different ways we handle the two and were causing problems too deep to quick-fix. Can you be more specific about the problems you encountered? This post is well after that release, so there may be a spot we've missed. This was never meant for NPCs in the first release, so we could just roll it back, but I'd rather not if we can possibly fix it. As far as JSON import/export, that's a complicated question that we're discussing internally but have no answers for. There are a lot of complexities that aren't as simple as "just import/export", especially when it comes to groups of data that have relationships to each other in specific ways, and because we're in active development and still regularly changing data structures and how they're processed what you export today may not do the same things in 2 weeks. Like the aforementioned critical hit threshold - the work for that involves changing the data structures and how they're read, which if you exported your data today, might not work the same next time you import it. We are aware of this request especially as custom classes become more and more powerful on the sheet, but because of the complexity of the issue on multiple levels it's still in the "can/should we do this, and if so, how" phase of discussions and not on a roadmap.

This was never meant for NPCs in the first release, so we could just roll it back, but I'd rather not if we can possibly fix it. As I said, I filed a bug about this. In the NPC sheet, in Actions, click Add Attack. Give it a name, change type to Spell Save, set save type to Dexterity, click done. Notice that the spellcasting ability modifier isn't getting added. Click the pencil, than advanced to get to the actual settings. Set Spellcasting (not override) to the spellcasting ability, click save. Maybe the save will work, maybe it won't. I'm going through the steps as I type this and it's not saving. Yesterday, it would save, but the name would disappear. And if you finally get it set up and try it, rather than the "here's the saving throw DC" template you expect, it rolls a d20 as an attack(?). The spell save setup that I see on new actions is not the spell save setup I see on existing actions. Are they different? If so, how do I create the other type?

Terry, I'd like to try to recreate this. I'll follow your steps, but just to be certain I'm doing it correctly, if you have the time or desire post a screen shot or two, that would help.

Creating the Spell Save Plus an image of the output. Output from Spell Save As you can hopefully see from the video, this time it knows the spellcasting attribute (value of 1), but doesn't add it, just proficiency (2). When I go in for the "wasn't that set correctly?" look, it loses the name. And then the output is not "make a Dex save of this DC". If I modify an existing spell save ability, I get a different set of parameters as well...
