A problem with GIFs

I am having an issue with uploading GIFs into Roll20 for some time now. When a GIF is uploaded into Roll20, the image shows up with a broken image icon in my library. However the image is still there, for example if I dragged it into the journal, the journal portrait remains there and if I drag the journal into the play area a token is produced, everyone can see these images not just me. I did some testing and this seems to affects GIFs only, jpegs and PNGs are unaffected. I have tried GIFs with and without transparency as well as of varying sizes, it seems to affect all GIFs. I believe it has something to do with the URLs of the images. When I upload the GIFs, the URL in the library will read gif but when taking the URL of the actual image (in the journal for example), the url reads jpg example library thumb nail https://s3.amazonaws.com/files.d20.io/images/58345... working image https://s3.amazonaws.com/files.d20.io/images/58345... However, the working image is still a gif and if I down load it it remains a gif and includes transparency. There is a work around by using the upload tab in the library, but I cannot drag from the library to the journal avatar. Reproduction Upload any gif by any means other than through the upload tab in the library Specs Operating System Windows Windows 7 Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Web Browser Chrome 38.0.2125.101 Browser Size 1920 x 979 Color Depth 24 Javascript Yes Flash Version 15.0.-1 Cookies Yes

Hello Daniel, Gifs are not the preferred image type to use on roll20. While you can use them, they will be poor quality and no animation. It is usually recommend to use jpg for not transparency images and png for the time you need transparency. https://wiki.roll20.net/Image_Best_Practices_for_Roll20#File_Types talks about what image is best for which function.
I use gifs for tokens and other small details which I want transparency on. I use them instead of pngs because I want to reduce the file size since they are usually so small that there isn't much of an issue with detail anyway. Like I said, the images still work and I can use the images just fine, it was just a bug I noticed so I thought I would report it.

As I understand it GIFs will not result in a smaller file size in Roll20. When you upload the image it gets converted from its native format to whatever Roll20 uses to store the images (which is why GIF animations go away).
