I'm working on a game from the old Mage the Ascension line, The Sorcerer's crusade. It has an interesting mechanic using fortune dice when players roll their Arete for magick. The mechanic is you roll your Arete and some extra dice along side it that are called Fortune Dice. The number of Fortune dice varies based upon how much scourge you have. The Arete roll uses the standard storyteller system of rolling d10s at a varying difficulty, 1s subtracting successes, 10s counting for 2 if they have a specialty. The Fortune Dice rolled alongside it work a bit differently though. It only matters if a 1 or a 10 comes up on them. This is what I managed to come up with &{template:default} {{name= SCIENCE!}} {{Arete= [[ ?{Arete |3}d10>?{Difficulty|6}f1 ]] Fortune [[ ?{Fortune Dice|1}d10>1f1 ]] }} It's not bad, it keeps the Fortune Dice separate from the rest of the roll and highlights whether a 1 or 10 comes up on them. I just wonder if there's a better solution for handling this sort of thing.
