Strixhaven University is now accepting magically gifted students for the upcoming school year! I’m looking for a group of 4-5 players to run through the Strixhaven campaign (taking you from Level 1 – 10). I’m open to teaching new D&D players and am a relative noob as a DM as well. About Strixhaven: From the product description: “The greatest minds in the multiverse meet at Strixhaven University. Professors convey fantastic secrets to eager students, and life on campus is frenetic. But danger lurks even here. Campus hijinks mix with mishaps and sinister plots, and it’s up to you to save the day…Characters can explore the setting over the course of four adventures, which can be played together or on their own. Each describes an academic year filled with scholarly pursuits, campus shenanigans, exciting friendships, hidden dangers, and perhaps even romance.” Note that Strixhaven University’s mission is to use magic to enhance other types of study (history, art, mathematics, etc.), so the university is open to any character with some degree of magic aptitude, including wizards, clerics, bards, paladins or rangers with just a couple of spells, etc. When? Every other Sunday, 9:30 AM – 12 PM Eastern. The earliest our Session Zero (for newbies, a Session Zero is when you meet to introduce yourselves, build characters, and discuss game preferences) would be held is Sunday, March 15 th . Platform: We’ll be using Roll20 (battle maps, virtual minis, roller) and Discord for voice chat. Tone/Gameplay Style: Strixhaven has plenty of room for humor and whimsy baked into it, but I’ll ask you to build rich, 3-dimensional characters with emotional depth. Gameplay will probably be roughly 70% roleplay and investigation, and 30% combat.  Building Characters: I’m happy to provide as much or as little support as you need building your characters in both a Session Zero and individually (through chat, etc.), and you do not need to buy the Strixhaven book or any of the core rulebooks for D&D 2014 if you choose not to (or you’re broke-ish like me!). If you’re a new player, I’ll strongly recommend sticking to the character options given in the 2014 Player’s Handbook because I have access to the physical books and can help you navigate the process, though there are also some Strixhaven-specific Background and Feat options we can discuss. If you want to use character options from other (2014) books, you’ll be on your own with building your character, leveling up, and so forth. You’ll be using the Point Buy (27 points) method to generate ability scores. As noted above, just about any character type with some tiny bit of magical ability is a feasible option. Mayhe obvious, but please don't apply if you've already played this campaign! Players: Ideal players will be inclusive of diverse group members, easygoing, patient (as your fellow players and/or DM learn), eager to share the spotlight with fellow party members, and dependable (able to make most sessions, but I totally get that life happens). They will prioritize having fun and telling a good story over mastering every rule. I’m asking that all players be at least 18, but it’s not due to content (there are options for romantic subplots but those will handled chastely/PG style). About me: I’m a guy in his mid-40s who has limited experience with DM-ing groups and 5th Edition but a long history of running 1-player games and various RPG systems. I have a pretty busy schedule with family stuff, work, and some health issues but will try to answer questions when I can. Interested?  Reply to this forum with the following information 1) what about this game interests you 2) discuss any tabletop RPG experience you've had 3) favorite fantasy narratives (i.e. books, shows, movies, video games, etc.) 4) the pop culture quotation you use the most in your daily life OR the pop culture character you most relate to and why
I'm interested in the game because my character is a high intelligence necromancer that's not so smart at social skills so it sounds like the perfect place to start, plus I saw it's 18+, LGBTQ+ and beginner friendly and with much place for roleplay (which I'm a sucker for, I'll do voices and everything) so it sounds right up my alley I've only ever played 2 DND sessions, one was in a group, the other was a one-to-one One-shot, I would love to learn more and play more often tho :) For fantasy narratives, I love dystopias, eldritch horror, medieval times and I'm currently getting into westerns (also anything that's just "it's earth but there's something to it/something unusual happening in it) I'll quote anything that hits my brain particularly funny so I'm not too sure which quote I use the most and I don't know if this is a pop culture character but I do relate to Sans from Undertale and I quote stuff from TADC, the boondocks, family guy, etc
w1llz0, welcome aboard! Undertale  has been in my Steam wishlist for probably about a decade now. Still need to get around to it someday...

I literally almost just dropped my phone when I saw this post. This is *exactly* the kind of table/campaign I've been looking for (*performs Jedi mind trick*). And here's why: 1. I am also a guy in my mid-40s (who happens to be the G in LGBTQ+) who recently played DnD for the first time (ever) and ended up being the DM of an 11 (and a half) episode, fully online, homebrewed Stormwreck campaign for my group of IRL friends who all live far away from me now. I did it kinda maybe sort of on a dare and basically I live here now (which, as an aside, might also be my current pop culture quotation of the week). I might be slightly obsessed. I created a Campaign full of intrigue, action, intention and immersion. And since then my creativity (fueled by my ADHD superpower) has been unbounded and I've done nothing but dream up new worlds, new terrors, new adventures and more characters that I can count. But I also realize that I'm still a DnD baby. And I'd love to know what it's like to be on the other side of the Screen. And Strixhaven sounds like a wonderful place to experience that. I've also been working on a new homebrewed campaign where my Players begin their story at the Silverymoon Conservatory with baby creatures they select as basically starter Pokemon / familiars. So I'd love to experience how something like a University system works within the Multiverse. 2. Oops. See above. (*covers eyes emoji*) 3. Buffy. Star Wars. Star Trek. Harry Potter. Pokemon. Fortnite. The Phantom Tollbooth. Foundation. I mean... so many I'm not even thinking of off the top of my head. Vox Machina. Jem. She-Ra. I mean, so, so many...  4. I am proficient in the language GIF. If I could speak only in GIFs for the rest of my life, I'd be happy. (And everyone would have less to read. lol) But thank you for reading, nonetheless. I hereby submit this post as my application for a seat at your table. ☑️

1) what about this game interests you  I am a big fan of rp and the way to talked about building the characters feels like the perfect fit! It sounds like an interesting story and I want to be apart of it! 2) discuss any tabletop RPG experience you've had  I’ve had about 5 years of DND experience as a player and about a year as a DM. 3) favorite fantasy narratives (i.e. books, shows, movies, video games, etc.)  I am a big fan of stories and games where you can have fun and make jokes then two minutes later get punched in the gut with emotion. I love stories of good and evil and getting revenge, but maybe what we know isn’t true the things aren’t as black and white as they seem. 4) the pop culture quotation you use the most in your daily life OR the pop culture character you most relate to and why   I’ll be honest, while trying to think of an answer for this, I just kept doing the Minecraft villager “hmm” noise so I’m going with that. Also this is done in partner with Ace, who will post his own. We are a couple looking to join together.
This post caught my partner's eye, we've been looking for a game to get into and frankly this seems to be a perfect match. 1) I've been cursed as an eternal dm and I'm always chomping at the bit for an opportunity to play.  The concept sounds fun and I've already got a character bouncing around in my library that feels like a good fit.  It's honestly very exciting just considering the possibilities. 2) I've been dm'ing for 4-5ish years and been fortunate enough to play in a few one-shots, all 5e sans a Lazers and Feelings one-shot. 3) Always been an absolute sucker for feel good and and hope in the greatest darkness style stories.  A real soft spot for stories and settings that take the time to explore the world, get into the weeds about what makes their setting tick and what life looks like there.  There's far too many ip's to list, but a small sample includes; Lord of the Rings (w/ The Hobbit), Discworld (Rincewind, The Watch, Death), Star Wars, Star Trek (Mostly TNG, DS9, and VOY), Cthulu mythos, FromSoft's various works (Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Elden Ring), Eragon 4) I've been accused by multiple parties of using Master Samwise Gamgee's famous quote " If I take one more step, I'll be the farthest away from home I've ever been. " far too many times so I think it's the only obvious option. No doubt Anubis has already beaten my here but I'm eager to hear back and see where this goes :D
