Can't Transfer Characters?

Trying to create a backup for my current game and the Transmogrifier keeps throwing an error. 'Error Copying Demiplane Character - User not found'
I experienced the same, here's my post and replies https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/12627645/error-copying-demiplane-character-user-not-found/?pageforid=12627645#post-12627645
Ref to Demiplane was never explained, though Roll20 contact did say that it was odd

Hi DM! To my knowledge, a Demiplane character cannot be transmogrified. It exists in the game in a different manner than native Roll20 assets.
Hi Keith, it could be that DM is referring to Demiplane characters, in which case I will hush my mouth, but we got that for our table and none of us have anything to do with Demiplane. Roll20 couldn't explain why that message was appearing either

Thanks! OP mentioned "Transmogrifier" and "Demiplane" specifically, so that's what I was going by. I'll look to see if I need to adjust my answer in your other thread.
I have never had anything on/to do with Demiplane. I'm barely aware of it. These are 4 characters in a Mothership game using the 'Mothership by Tuesday Night Games' character sheet and created in Roll20. Demiplane should have nothing to do with it, but that's the error I get when I try to move them to a different game using the Transmogrifier. Sorry I was unclear.

I can't see anything on that sheet that indicates Demiplane either. Your best bet is probably to file a Help Center Request . The team should be better able to figure out the issue.
DM - Keith's character creation advice in the thread referenced above is spot on, I would prefer it if players could make characters in my games that I could transmog without me having to start the ball rolling, but it is what it is. Miles was my contact and their last response was: On 09/02/2026 19:45, Roll20 Support wrote: ##- Please type your reply above this line -## Your request (404967) has been updated. To add additional comments, reply to this email. Thank you for this! I believe I was able to replicate this on my end with a similar set up and I DO think it is a case of the error message being flat out wrong. It appears that any character sheet that is made by another player in a game (which automatically creates a synced copy in their Roll20 Character tool) will throw this error if you attempt to move it via the transmogrifier. It seems that this error is not resolved by duplicating the character, so then the best workaround would be rather than having the players use the button to create their own sheets, that you as the GM create the sheets and then assign it to them. Sheets created by GMs do not automatically make a Roll20 Characters connection otherwise it'd be cluttered with NPCs. I'll be getting this escalated to our dev team so they are aware and we can get it fixed up soon! All the best, Miles

Thank you both for your help. I have a help ticket going, but knowing why this is happening (even if the error message itself is incorrect) helps to reduce the frustration. This is the first game (out of nearly 100) that I've had my players make their own characters from scratch, so I've never had to deal with portability/proprietary issues before. I'll just go back to handing out blank sheets, I guess.
Our table talked about this because we had not encountered it until our newest game. We are all convinced that they've logged in and made characters without me doing anything and it has not been a problem, but then we all looked at each other and grew a collective ? over our heads. Could be Mandela Effect...
