DM - Keith's character creation advice in the thread referenced above is spot on, I would prefer it if players could make characters in my games that I could transmog without me having to start the ball rolling, but it is what it is. Miles was my contact and their last response was: On 09/02/2026 19:45, Roll20 Support

Thank
you for this!
I believe I was able to replicate this on my end with a
similar set up and I DO think it is a case of the error
message being flat out wrong.
It appears that any character sheet that is made by another
player in a game (which automatically creates a synced copy in
their Roll20 Character tool) will throw this error if you
attempt to move it via the transmogrifier.
It seems that this error is not resolved by duplicating the
character, so then the best workaround would be rather than
having the players use the button to create their own sheets,
that you as the GM create the sheets and then assign it to
them. Sheets created by GMs do not automatically make a Roll20
Characters connection otherwise it'd be cluttered with NPCs.
I'll be getting this escalated to our dev team so they are
aware and we can get it fixed up soon!
All the best,
Miles
