I know that users have been calling for years now to allow token snapping to the centre of grid squares. However, for whatever reason, it seems like it is too onerous to enable this as the roll20 system works on snapping to the top left corner of grids. At present, the solution to having a token that does not fill an entire grid square (such as for small or tiny creatures, or if you want tokens to have a bit of extra space around them rather than filling right up to the edge of the grid) is either to simply resize it in roll20 and then position it without snapping by either disabling grid snapping or by holding ALT every time you place the token down OR to manually download the tokens, edit them in a separate program to add transparent space (or "padding"), reupload them and reassign them to the appropriate PC/NPC/Monster. This is a lot of manual work when you need to do it for dozens or even hundreds of individual tokens. Also, this is a small gripe, but I prefer the look of the bars/nameplates when they scale down with the token rather than floating further away unscaled. You can see what I mean in the below example with the scaled down Wraith without padding compared to the Cat with padding. My suggestion is to add a Token Snapping Offset option in the token settings which automatically applies an offset to the snapping location of that token each time it is snapped to a grid. This would include both a vertical and a horizontal offset value that can be entered separately that could be either positive or negative. The reason for allowing the value to be negative is to enable tokens to slightly overhang the bounds of their occupied space, such as when they have arms and weapons held outwards as in the below case. There would need to be some consideration given to how this interacts with auras because auras are effected by the size of the token but it is certainly not unsolvable and workarounds would be fairly simple. The above would resolve a huge source of heartache and annoyance for users who have been calling for this type of functionality for years. Alternatively, if you could just figure out how to implement snapping to the centre of grids and give that as an option in token settings instead, that'd be even better... PS: Another suggestion is to add a Token Padding option in the token settings that adds a designated amount of transparent space around the token. This could achieve some (though not all)of the above goals as well.
