Returning old-school gamer LFG, UK.

Hi, not new to gaming, but have been away from pen and paper-type stuff for over 10 years. I'm looking to get involved in a fun, light-hearted and flexible group to ease myself back into D&D as last time I played was 1st or 2nd ed, 20+ years ago (since then its been Vampire) so ill need time to get my head around the new rules as we go. Looking for a group playing week nights ideally?
I'd be interested if it's week nights, GMT. I could play or DM as needed for most editions of D&D. I wouldn't be adverse to either version of Vampire, either.
What about Dungeon World, would that interest either of you?
Not heard of Dungeon World 'til now, have DL'd it and will have a read, thanks. Ideally after some old-school style D&D to ease myself back in and learn how the d20 system works though, as so many games seem to use it these days.
Personally, I could do without learning *another* system. The D&D Next (5th Edition) is pretty old school, strangely enough. I've got the play test pack for that. And a load of stuff for 3.0, 3.5 and 4. The third editions were most D20 based. 4 was a big departure.
Personally, I could do without learning *another* system. That's a shame, because there's so many good ones out there. I'll leave you guys to it then.
I've got no issues with learning new systems, but I've been out of the pen and paper stuff for a log time now, and need something simple to get back into it, and even having not played it, the D&D world is the one I at least know a bit about.
I can do Dungeon World, if the group would prefer to play and the GM will have me.
If you guys are going to do a DnD 3.5e game and you have room, I'll join, just need any character creation rules the DM may have. I prefer 3.5e because I'm more familiar with it and I own the books.
Heh, that's another issue, I'm not familiar with anything D&D past 2nd ed, but as long as we can agree on a set of rules for me to read up on, I'm game. Anyone want to volunteer to DM? They would be the one to set the rules we need to use.
I'm a volunteer DM. I can run a game in Savage Worlds or any D&D/d20/retroclone (preferably not 4e or 3.x since it's way too much book keeping for my taste). Just msg me. I live in GMT+2 zone but I have a very flexible schedule so I can fit a game almost anywhere.
...I have no idea what Savageworlds is, but it sounds like fun. Point me in the direction of the books I need to get hold of and we can get something down.
I seem to remember there being some Savage Worlds stuff in Arcane magazine (if anyone remembers Arcane magazine), but I think that might be a similar sounding game. It was very Jules Verne, HG Wells, Edgar Rice Burroughs influenced.
Really? I had imagined a more Conan era, but as long as its got a decent bit of high-fantasy crazy magic in it I'll be happy. (Probably should have mentioned that earlier I now realise... I like playing crazy mages.)
Evil Steve, Savage Worlds is an elegant system with very little book keeping and innovative mechanics. It's super easy to learn (like 5 minutes). Check out more @ Pinnacle Entertainment Group's website http://www.peginc.com/ If you wish, send me a private message with (preferably) your gmail address and I can share some rules with you through Google Drive. You can get the soft cover core rules as cheaply as 10 USD. The feel of the game is very pulpy (I'd say it has Die Hard level of realism) but it can do pretty much any genre. There's a ton of settings for it - anything from pirates to conanesque fantasy to horror western to warhammerish scifi. Savage Worlds is my current love for real life games but I'd like to start with some dark sword and sorcery using the latest D&D retroclone Dungeon Crawl Classics. You'd really get to play a crazy mage. Really. Crazy. Mage. There's a thread looking for Dungeon Crawl Classics players so I think we might be able to scrape together enough players for a great game.
It's got rules for Deadlands. Sold! That was a wicked game.
