Macros work when testing but not otherwise

Beginning the gradual process of adding macros and token actions for all the NPCs with the D&D 2024 sheet. I love being able to add the actions directly from the character sheet. The macros work great when testing from the character sheet, but as soon as I try to use them from the token bar, I get results like this:   %{Spy|Hand_Crossbow} . (I'm using a 2024 Spy NPC as my guinea pig for this.)  What am I doing wrong? 
You'll have to post the macro for anyone to help you troubleshoot.

I've noticed similar problems on Demiplane linked games. Some of the Demiplane macro problems have been solved, but in general, I've given up on being able to use the token bar.
