Interest Check: Dungeons and Dragons 4e

Hello there folks. I've been DMing 4th edition games since the system came out and it's my system of choice. I believe that 4e is a bit underrepresented here on roll20 and I wanted to fix that. I am open to running a 4th Edition Dungeons and Dragons game on roll20. My availability is 7-11pm central time mon-thursday, anytime saturday, and sunday afternoons or evenings. I wanted to ask the community what type of game they would like to play, within the system. Low magic, high magic? A campaign focused on a certain power source? Forgotten Realms? Dragonlance? Eberron? Dark Sun? A custom setting? One shot or long campaign? Heroic? Paragon? Epic? Or a story branching through all tiers? I personally have been quite surprised by the complete lack of 4e Dark Sun or Eberron games on either roll20 or even in my experience in my own local community. But I'd like to know what you guys want.
I think the lack of Dark Sun and Eberron strongly has to do with the fact both those settings were created and optimized to best use and fit to the systems they were originally written for including some very specific rules and guide lines that are very hard to translate and when you lose them parts of the game are definitively changed and lost and not for the better. Just my take on it anyways good luck with your game.
I've been wanting to try 4E for a while now. I'll be honest with you right now though. My only experience with D&D was a custom built PvP variant of 3.5 back when 4E wasn't out yet. Never did the roleplaying part... Really want to give it a shot though. And the schedule is perfect because I work 40 hours friday-sunday with the rest of my weeks off. I'm OK with any setting you choose or come up with. I have every 4E book and have been reading thoroughly. I'll still probably need some help and or pointers every now and then.

Anyone new to 4e, I'd suggest read the essentials line of books. Specifically the Rules Compendium, the Heroes of the Fallen Lands , and the Heroes of the Forgotten Kingdoms . I myself find the essentials CLASSES limiting, but they do provide the most up to date rules in print. Ethan, can I ask what TYPE of game you're interested in? Would a high fantasy game of epic spell duels, world shaping magics, and massive armies interest you or would something more low-key. A brutal land inspired by Conan or something similar? EDIT: Sorry, had to remove the links, was getting a weird preview thing going on.
What would you suggest for learning the system better? I like the sound of no-holds-barred high fantasy. Thinking of either playing Ardent or Barb. If those choices are alright with you.
My experence here has been a bunch of "keep on the shadowfel" runs where the dm vanishes at some point, but if you put a group together and need an extra body I'd be happy to jump in so long as it's not a monday.
I'd read through one of those player's guides, either one is fine. And I'd suggest listening to the Penny Arcade dnd 4e podcasts. There is an even better podcast series but it is extremely long in the tooth and is still going on (and should have died over a year ago). Their old stuff is good though: http://majorspoilers.com/critical-hit/
Well keep on the shadowfell is frankly dreadful. XP, but except for a recent false start that failed due to lack of player commitment, I've got 2 long-term 4e campaigns on my belt, at least as far as online games go. My friday game is still ongoing since last October and my game previous to that lasted 7 months. I'm committed to running something cool, but I'd like player feedback on their interests. Or maybe even just 'would be cool to play in something like x...'
I meant what setting would you suggest.
Ahh. Well forgotten realms. It's the most well known in more popular culture and video games. Video games like Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, and the MMO Neverwinter all feature in that setting. However a lot of FR fans dislike 4e's treatment of the setting, which basically nuked the setting from magical orbit and changed a lot about it. Still, it is quite evocative and there's a lot of neat story hooks in the books.
High magic custom setting preferably starting at lvl 1-10.
Or we could do forgotten realms. Really just want to get some experience.
So probably something that would have the ability to be a self contained one shot, but be expanded into a campaign if interest continued.
Yes
Well I got one :P
I have found what I plan on running. I will be running the Zeitgeist adventure path from Enworld Press. I stumbled on it through google, didn't realize it was also for 4e. http://zeitgeistadventurepath.com/
When do you plan to start
Well I can play any of those days, so I need to get more than 1 person interested so we can start to hash out when we're playing. But it wouldn't be next week, most likely, but the week after.
ok i'll keep checking. might have some people
I got 2 interested parties in roll20. But you should PM me your skype details so I can add you.
Hiya! I've been sniffing about for more 4E games to leap into, with timezones being the biggest problem in my specific case. You can read a bit of what I'm after in this thread . If you got room for me and think I'd be a good fit - and, of course, the timezone stuff wouldn't be an issue - gimme a holler. :)
I would be interested if the times worked out. I am in EST, which is I believe an hour ahead of you. I would be available Tuesday or Thursday nights, at around 8:30 EST (which again, should be 7:30 CST for you). I have a good deal of 4e experience, including plenty of DM experience with the system. In fact, I share your sentiment as it is I think my go-to edition... though, 5E might replace it in time. If interested, send me a PM and we can discuss further. thanks!
X P. said: My experence here has been a bunch of "keep on the shadowfel" runs where the dm vanishes at some point, but if you put a group together and need an extra body I'd be happy to jump in so long as it's not a monday. If you haven't filled the party roster yet, I can advocate for X.P. Great roleplayer, interesting character concepts, and knows the game systems ... at least Pathfinder anyway :) Definitely a boon to any group.
Anyone who's interested should PM me their skype details, if they haven't already.
We have one more opening, for a defender at the moment.
I have a defender ready I just need to know what day and time do you plan on runing the game.
We're playing wednesday nights. We've got a defender now for the moment. but I'm accepting interest in case someone bails or leaves.
Skype details.. I'll get right back to you on that
