We have been using Roll20 for years, and our group has been experiencing increasingly severe performance issues over the last several months, specifically with the 2024 Character Sheet . At first, the problems were annoying but manageable. They have now reached the point where we are regularly unable to play the game at all . Our group consists of players located across Europe, including Greece, Sweden, and Germany. We all have good, stable internet connections, modern laptops, and we have tested multiple browsers. This does not appear to be an issue that can reasonably be attributed to one player's hardware, connection, or browser. The problems For the last several months, we have consistently noticed that performance becomes significantly worse at around 18:00 UTC . Before 18:00 UTC, the problems are generally lighter. After that time, the game becomes increasingly unstable: Dice rolls can take 30–60 seconds to process. Character sheets become extremely slow or completely unresponsive. Character sheets can crash or fail to open. Token bars and token information behave incorrectly or "go crazy." General interactions with the VTT become delayed and unreliable. During combat, every action can take significantly longer than it should. These issues have been happening repeatedly for months , not just during one isolated session. Our last game on 22/07/2026 was already extremely difficult to play. A combat encounter that would normally take around 30 minutes took us hours because of the constant lag and instability. We struggled through the session, but the experience was frustrating for everyone involved. Today, the situation became completely unacceptable On 29/07/2026 , we were unable to play our session at all. The character sheets simply would not open. After repeatedly refreshing and trying again, a sheet would sometimes finally open ( 8 minutes later) , only to crash again . We have also followed the advice given by Roll20 developers in other bug reports, including trying to keep the character sheet open/minimized rather than repeatedly opening and closing it . This has not solved the problem. We have tried different browsers and different machines across multiple players. The problem persists. We need an actual explanation and a solution We have looked through the many existing bug reports concerning similar performance issues. Unfortunately, we are seeing very little in the way of concrete solutions or meaningful updates. In some reports, devs are told us that everything is working correctly. In others, that the issue is being investigated, but then there are no substantial updates for a long period of time. Meanwhile, our group has been struggling to play for months . Today, we were finally forced to cancel our entire gaming session because the platform was effectively unusable . This is not a minor inconvenience. For a VTT, the ability to open a character sheet, roll dice, and interact with tokens is fundamental functionality. When these basic features consistently fail, the platform becomes unusable for actual gameplay. Our DM is now seriously considering cancelling their Pro subscription and moving our campaign to Foundry VTT . We have been using Roll20 for years, and we would prefer to continue using it. But we cannot continue paying for a service that has become increasingly difficult to use while receiving no clear indication of when these issues will actually be resolved. Please provide a serious investigation and, most importantly, a meaningful update on what is causing these problems and what is being done to fix them. We need more than generic troubleshooting suggestions that we have already tried. We need to know whether this is a known issue with the 2024 Character Sheet, a server-side performance problem, a time-based load issue, or something else. At this point, months of recurring performance problems followed by a completely unplayable session is not acceptable . We are asking Roll20 to take this issue seriously and provide a concrete update to the community.
