Looking for Players | Level 3 | 2014 5e Rules + Approved 2024 Content At sunset the lanterns show themselves and by morning there is always one person missing. I want to find a few people to take part in a story-driven Play-by-Post D&D 5e campaign that takes place in a strange town where all seems completely normal during the day but things change after nightfall. While it's daylight, the town is full of merchants, travelers, inns, and regular faces, and people carry on with their daily lives as if nothing is amiss. However, once sunset comes, all sorts of odd things happen—lanterns appear in places where they don't belong, doors open on their own, and people vanish without a trace. Some of the locals claim to have seen people walking around the town who died many years before. Recently, the town has begun to feel wrong itself. The purpose of the party will be simple; they intend to investigate the strange occurrences and find out what is going on. However, the more deeply you look into the matter, the more questions you will come up with. At last, you might have to consider whether the darkness is coming from outside the town or whether it has been there all the time. The campaign will place a strong emphasis on roleplay, character development, mystery, investigation, horror, exploration, and making significant choices. Your character will not be merely a set of numbers; their personality, history, relationships, fears, and ambitions can all play a part in the story. You will have the chance to search places, ask questions of non-player characters, follow clues, discover secrets, and decide whom you can actually trust. Although there will be combat, it won't be the only way in which problems are solved. The decisions you make will have consequences and the story will be influenced by the actions of the party. The campaign will start at level 3 and make use of D&D 5e. The main ruleset is the 2014 Fifth Edition rules, although some approved content from 2024 may also be included. Official material is given preference, and homebrew content can be considered if approved. Characters need to have a reason for getting involved with the town and its mysteries, and it is encouraged to provide meaningful backstories since your character's past might end up being relevant to the campaign. People who are new to the game and those who have experience are all welcome. It’s not necessary to know all the rules or to have years of experience in D&D. When you’re new, I’ll be glad to assist you in learning as we play. The most important thing is that you enjoy the roleplaying, respect the other players, take part in the story, and keep in touch with the group. In a Play-by-Post campaign it is important to keep up with regular activity. You don't have to be online at the same time as all the other people, but it is necessary that the players are able to make frequent posts and to communicate when they are unable to do so. Personal commitments in real life take priority, and no one is expecting you to be online all the time. Effective communication is what ensures that a Play-by-Post campaign continues. I, as the game master, want to create a dark and atmospheric environment full of memorable non-player characters, unfolding mysteries, significant choices, fair encounters, opportunities for exploration, secrets, and a world that responds to the actions of the party. Above all else, I would like your characters to be important; your decisions should make a difference and the campaign should come across as a story that you and I are jointly creating rather than following a set route. The sun is setting. The lanterns come out one at a time. No one knows who is responsible for lighting them. No one knows why they appear. And tonight yet another person will vanish. Shall you carry out the investigation? Shall you reveal the truth? Or will the town have you before you have managed to get away? If it seems to you like the kind of adventure you've been looking for, then send me a direct message including your experience with D&D, a character idea you'd like to play, your timezone, and your expected level of activity. You don't need to have a full character sheet at this stage just let me know a bit about yourself and explain the kind of character you'd like to bring into the story. The lanterns are ready. Are you brave enough to go with them? Let me know if you're interested; I'd really like to have you join us.
