I have decades of experience in TTRPGs, but none in Cyberpunk 2020. It's time to change that. I'm looking for 2-3 adventurous players to join me (and another player) on an intentionally unbalanced wild ride to learn a new system, test the boundaries of the rules, and make some memories. We're both in our 30s and looking for mature players. The two-shot will take place on the weekend, with the day and time to be decided based on availability. While this is for beginners, it may be overwhelming for those who prefer to start simple. Everything, including the kitchen sink, will be thrown at the players: revised martial arts, vehicular combat, party-based netrunning house rules, and more! To compensate, PCs will be overpowered and have access to near limitless funds. If it sounds like plot and backstory won't matter because the game seems like it'll be chaos, then let me back up. I'm a storyteller first and foremost as a DM. One of the main draws of the system is the rich potential for creating narratives in a genre I enjoy in media, yet haven't explored much in tabletop. The story will contain mature topics, political themes, moral dilemmas, graphic violence, and maybe a bit of philosophical reflection on the nature of man; like any good entry in the genre. Your mission - in and out of character - is to create order from anarchy. Master something new in the face of adversity. And there might be more than meets the eye if you can see the forest for the trees. The Hook: America is amid a Cold Civil War. After a presidential election spiraled out of control, the states ceased to be united. Cities seceded from their states. Controlling airports and highways translated to power. Corporations used their resources to continue the transport of goods and sustain services across the country. They kept promises that politicians broke. Some say this caused a paradigm shift in power. Others argue it merely revealed the truth of who had the real power all along. Borders were redrawn by competing ideologies, and tensions reached a boiling point in the absence of a central authority. Foreign interests infiltrated and spread through puppet administrations. Several regions elected their own president, and weaker territories gathered around these new figureheads. The East Coast is currently in a standoff among three factions: Peoples' Republic of America, New England-Atlantic Union, and Americana Syndicates. None can expand further without war; however, gains and losses frequently happen in spite of this. Media has been the battlefield for the hearts and minds of citizens. Terrorists are glorified as freedom fighters while being used as pawns in proxy wars. People are distracted by luxuries while surrounded by propaganda as they unwittingly cheer on the collapse of society. Humanitarian CEOs who've put Americans first are vilified for making the profit necessary to keep businesses running that millions rely upon. And most despicably, the assassination of President Kurt Garver, who lived and died for the liberty of Americana Syndicates. This is where you come in, Patriot. You are among the last true heroes: policemen. Americana Syndicates' top operators had their identities revealed in a data breach and are currently cataloged and tracked by enemy supercomputers. Due to the nature of President Garver's assassination, the atrocity can't be traced back to those who are undeniably responsible, and open conflict will frame the Syndicates as aggressors. As part of an experimental, clandestine counter-intelligence operation, you have been hand-selected to be outfitted with the biggest name brand cyberware and weapons the military-industrial complex's sponsors can afford to supply. Your promotion to State Executioner is effective immediately, including full life insurance benefits for your first, and logistically predicted last, mission. Hunt down the terrorists and find evidence of who their handlers are. Liquidate the guilty. Prevail through capitalism. God bless America.
