Exploding Dice Toggle for 5e Character Sheet?

Hey all, I have to confess that I'm not really the best with the coding part of things, but I've been trying to poke around with the character sheet to see if there's some way of making this happen without delving into the guts of the sheet. Is it possible to do anything with, say, the Global Damage Modifier field to let me toggle whether my damage dice are exploding, something I could easily spread around my table? We're using a good bit of homebrew with our campaign, and one of my abilities is the ability to make damage dice exploding, sometimes for myself and sometimes for my allies, but unfortunately I need to declare it before I roll, and I'd really rather not force all my fellow players to turn off auto-damage rolling whenever I might use the ability.

Hi Eondor Harcin,  Which character sheet are you using? There are nearly a dozen D&D 5e character sheets.
Apologies, I should have known that. Just asked my DM, we're using "D&D 5E (Classic)" supposedly, though I'm unsure how much that narrows it down.

It exactly narrows it down. :) Can you supply an example of how you are using the exploding dice? Ie: the macro or damage field being rolled.
How I'm using the exploding dice? Well if you mean what I'm trying to do with it, I'd like a toggle or query I could put on my sheet or have my party members put on theirs to let us put exploding dice on any damage roll. I can't really give an exact macro or damage field because the ability lets me make any  damage dice explode, but only sometimes. If you mean what I'm doing with it already, uh, I thought I was being clever when I tried putting "!" in the global damage modifier field, but it didn't work. I then did enough digging around to realize that I would likely need to learn essentially from scratch how to edit character sheets in roll20 and figured I'd ask here for help from someone who already knew what they were doing before trying to reinvent the wheel.

Ok... lets start from scratch.  Exactly what do you want to explode?  Weapon damage?  All weapons or just some weapons?  Anything else particular about how they explode? That sort of thing. I need examples of how you want to use this before I know how to set it up for you.  Note: pretend Roll20 doesn't exist, describe it to me like we are two people at a gaming table in your house with no computers.
Apologies, I wasn't sure what exactly you meant. Let me try to describe the scenario entirely agnostic of Roll20 My character has the ability to make *any* set of damage dice explode, weapon damage or otherwise, mine or my allies', with balancing factors that mean this ability is limited use, so we can't have exploding dice all the time. I have to declare that a set of damage dice is going to be explosive before they're rolled, but I and my friends like rolling damage dice along with the to-hit for any given attack, to make the game go quicker. I'm allowed to declare the dice explosive after the *attack* is rolled though, so my ability is only spent on a hit. The explosions themselves are typical for exploding dice, just rolling another die and adding it to the total whenever we roll the maximum on a damage die. What I'd like to do is hand out a set of dice to all of my friends that explode on their max value all on their own, so that when my friends are winding up for a big attack, I can say "hey, if that attack hits, I'll make the damage explosive" and they can set aside their regular dice to pick up the exploding ones, still rolling damage dice along with the to-hit. It'd be awkward to be rolling the exploding dice all of the time, because then my friends might get confused when the dice jump around on the table even when I'm not using the ability. But it's also awkward and it slows the game down to tell all my friends "no more rolling damage with to-hit anymore, because I say so". I and my friends also really like rolling with the dice tower that came packaged with our set of the game, and I don't want to tell all my friends that they can't use the nifty thing that came with our sheets. Can you help me forge a set of special dice to hand out? Sorry, I worry phrasing it like that might sound patronizing, and that's absolutely not my intent, but I feel like this scenario gets across the idea with as little metaphor-stretching as possible.

To summarize:  1) You need to announce that the damage will be explosive 2) it applies to all dice.  3) It needs to while using during auto-damage rather than roll damage separately. If that is correct, how do you want to handle the fact it is declared after the to-hit roll?  Any decision to implement exploding on the D&D 5e (Classic) sheet will kick in before the damage roll unless you use separate damage.  In either case (damage with the attack, damage separate from the attack) Option 1: Query, it asks if you want to explode or not Option 2: reactive switch, you checkmark a box (Global Damage probably) and while checkmarked all damage rolls are exploding. Third option for damage with the attack:  Option 3: It rolls damage normally, then if exploding it rolls again.  This option will require research to see if it is possible. And will need to figure out how to exclude the static bonuses.  Options 1 and 2 are easy in either setup (Damage with attack or damage separate from the attack) What is your preference?
You've got the right idea now, I apologize that I explained myself so poorly at first. Thank you for being patient with me, I really appreciate it! I think Option 2 is what I was initially thinking, and I'd really appreciate help implementing it. I tried fiddling around with the Global Damage Modifier to make it work myself, but I couldn't figure out how to get anywhere with it. If the query for Option 1 is after seeing the result of the roll (i.e. seeing if it's a crit) then that would also work, and Option 3 as a toggle would arguably be best, but the benefit is marginal and I don't think it's worth investing the effort of research into it.

Please supply a screenshot of someone's character sheet, focusing on the Global Damage Modifier area.
There is the Global Damage Modifier field expanded, and the settings option I ticked to make it appear on the sheet. Thanks for the help!

Ok, that character isn't using Global Damage Modifier (ie: it is the default version).  Here is your setup:  On the "cog" (settings) subpage Enable Global Damage Modifier On the "Core" subpage create and edit the Global Damage Modifier.  Name it whatever you want, leave the rest of the fields blank (nothing in damage, critical, or type).  Close the edit.  Make sure that the Global Damage Modifier we just set up is the FIRST in the list. If it is not first, move it into the first position.  Create an attack, in the damage field put (assumes d6s):  [[@{repeating_damagemod_$0_global_damage_active_flag}*1]]d6! +[[(1-@{repeating_damagemod_$0_global_damage_active_flag})*1]]d6 Set up the rest of the attack normally.  Test it with the global damage checkbox off.  Test it with the global damage checkbox on.  You now have a switch to tell it to use 1d6! or use 1d6 Modifications:  Multiple dice: If you have multiple dice change *1 to *2 or whatever number of dice you want. Make sure you change both instances of *1. Dice size: If you have other sized dice from d6 change the d6 to the correct size. As above, make sure you change both instances of d6.
Thanks so much! Really appreciate the help!
