[Suggestion] A timer feature.

I would like to suggest/request a timer feature to be added to the tools on the side. I picture it as a small digital clock interface with two modes, a stop watch or a countdown timer. The option could exist for it to be toggled to the GM Layer or the Map Layer (so that the players can see but not interact with it). However the same GM-only effect can be done by opening another window with a timer in it, the important issue to address is that the players can all share and see the same timer. It can be used for dramatic effects, having only a short time to accomplish a task. Or it can be used to keep a running tally of how long a task has taken, with different outcomes depending on the completion time. I know that I would use it in every game to keep the initiative order running smoothly, giving each player an allotted amount of time before his/her turn is shifted in the initiative. If this is posted in the wrong spot, please point me in the right direction. Thank you!

You can post your addition suggestion to this thread: <a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1242008/round-co" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1242008/round-co</a>... After you post there, you can delete your post if you wish otherwise one of us mods will close it later.

Thanks Pat. edit: I've posted it there but the thread seems to be more about a round counter system (similar to an abacus) rather than a timer (more like a clock). I believe this may be a novel idea.

True it is but there is an API script for that already also (if I remember correctly). The round counter was the closest I could find for your suggestion.

There is a very very very old timer API script for that: <a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/144829/hourglass" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/144829/hourglass</a>...

The only problem is that the API is a mentor subscription feature.

Pat S. said: The round counter was the closest I could find for your suggestion. Actually there is another Suggestion thread I remembered, called "clock/calendar feature" that seems a bit nearer to what Matt is asking. Matt you can take a look and support this one too, if you like, <a href="https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1274099/clock-sl" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1274099/clock-sl</a>...

I believe that suggestion is more along the lines of tracking in game date and time. Like, "The PCs spend 3 hours canvasing the town square for witnesses of the attack" [bumps up the time by 3 hours] "It is now just after dusk and the streets are filled with a soft mist..."
To be honest, I'm looking for something that's slightly more elegant than this site: <a href="http://www.online-stopwatch.com/" rel="nofollow">http://www.online-stopwatch.com/</a> I'd like the players to be able to see the same time that I'm seeing. A digital clock interface with a switch to count up or count down and a tone when it hits 0 would suffice. Sometimes we need real-world timing instead of in-game timing.

The API script I listed above is a real time timer that everyone can see. There isn't an option in the API to make sounds, but it does write to chat I believe.
