141102 Alchemist Secret Lab and Green Slime Survival

QUICK READ RECAP : For those of us that are busy and don't have time to read the entire DM Session Log, provided here is a quick read recap of the entire session to summarize the activities of the adventurers briefly and concisely. Warning though, this does contain spoilers! The party finishes searching the wine cellar, adjoining barracks room (found previously via a hidden door off of the south wall of the wine cellar), to come across two additional secret doors, one in the SW corner of the barracks revealing a flight of stairs descending to a cavern complex of tunnels and caves, and another in the NE corner of the skeleton encounter area revealing the long dead alchemist, still seated at his workbench! Venturing into the caverns, Sylvar examines a cavern full of bones, but finds himself in the fight of his life when a green slime drops down upon him from the cave ceiling above! Party members rush to his aid, applying torch fire to save him mere moments before being completely engulfed and ultimately devoured by the monster! DM SESSION LOG 141102 Tralann the Mage inspects female thief corpse in wine cellar and finds nothing Valiant enters secret barracks room adjacent to wine cellar through secret door near south wall fireplace. Svava kicks in door next to skeleton encounter room to reveal private quarters. Bjorn moves toward the living quarters. Sylvar pokes around in refuse bin in wine cellar and sees movement but carefully avoids more deadly rot grubs trying to attach themselves to his body! Leaxie investigates the secret barracks area wood pile...and finds nothing. Karmadel enters secret barracks room and inspects water barrel by fireplace and finds drinkable water. Tralann flips female corpse over for further inspection and finds stab wounds. Valiant opens chest in living quarters, dumping the box contents of clothing onto the floor but finds nothing of value or interest. Svava takes fur from bed and moves bed noticing a loose flagstone, removing a small iron box from a cavity in floor below. Bjorn inspects books on shelf: erotic poetry illustrated, naval almanac, mesmerism and pockets them. Sylvar checks box under desk finding 3 flasks of oil, a tinderbox w/ flint and steel, 8 new candles, parchment with strange gnoll markings. Leaxie opens barrack room bed foot locker and finds human male clothing. Karmadel looks under conference table and chairs and sees nothing. Tralann enters alchemist's lab and asks for and is given book of mesmerism for inspection, from Sylvar. Valiant slowly opens up the cupboard in the living quarters revealing an oilskin coat hanging on a hook. Svava inspects box with lock. Sylvar finds needle trap and disables a blue dye trap. Lexie is also unsuccessful in opening the lock on the box Svava found under the bed. Sylvar successfully picks lock. Inside the box, packed in wood shavings, are 5 glass vials (3 with slight yellow tint, 1 blue, and 1 green) and a small leather purse containing 11pp, Svava keeping 1pp and giving remainder to party loot. Bjorn inspects candlestick and finds it has little value. Karmadel looks for evil by stairs and senses nothing. Tralann inspects secret panel at top of stairs and sees that it only opens from below. Svava speculates home is overrun by pirates due to naval book of daily tide schedule. * Svava successfully identifies one phial as potion of delusion (200 XP) then distributes vials to other players. green bjorn, & lexie, skordala, sylvar (yellow). Bjorn builds fire by fireplace in barracks room, in preparation to prepare meats for party nourishment and HP replenishment. Sylvar searches for and successfully finds a secret door in the NE corner of the skeleton room! (100 XP) Leaxie takes bullseye lantern from floor and finds a secret compartment under desk! (100 XP). Karmadel takes torch and looks for secret doors but finds footprints over in the SW corner leading from the stairs (50XP). Tralann offers to help Bjorn start a fire (100 XP - alignment check) Svava chants (benefit used on later successful local history check). (200 XP) Bjorn starts fire (100 XP) Skordala goes to inspect footprints which seem to be coming from the stairs and finds secret door in SW corner (100 XP) Leaxie searches for secret doors on north wall of living quarter room and finds nothing. Karmadel opens secret door found by Skordala. Tralann searches bones in skeleton room but finds nothing. Bjorn inspects the food stuffs in bin and determines perishables are usable (100 XP) Skordala listens at secret door at top of stairs and hears nothing, then opens it to see the living area upstairs full of trash with a door on the north wall heading outside, then closing and securing the secret door. Sylvar carefully opens secret door in NE corner of skeleton room and enters, inspecting items in what appears to be a hidden alchemist's lab! Seated in a chair at the south wall work bench is a skeleton. It was surmised that this was probably the long dead Alchemist that went missing over 20 years ago. Tralann alerts party that secret room (off of skeleton room) is the alchemist workshop and alchemist found dead in chair (100XP roleplay) Leaxie asks Bjorn about items being prepared on stove...salted muttin, ham, sausages. (100 XP roleplay) Svava searches last chest and finds male human clothes but nothing of value, local check determines a small anchor logo inside label of shirt (200XP) Bjorn finishes preparing food that is edible and offers meal to party (no good in alignment, be careful!). Party gains full health from food prepared by Bjorn, and cooks remainder of food for later use as rations. (200XP) Tralann takes hat with inscriptions for party loot, and then the robe from the seated skeleton. Leaxie moves to secret door in SW corner. Tralann talks to the skeleton and discovers alchemist was reading a book about Philosopher's Stone. Svava speculates that items on the dead alchemists table could either be poisoned or cursed. * Moves to skeleton room and listens but over hears nothing of Tralann and Sylvar's conversation. Bjorn finishes cooking remainder of perishables for later use by party. Svava speculates pirates didn't know about alchemists room. * Skordala searches for secret doors on north wall of alchemist's room and finds none. Sylvar checks copper pots in earthenware pile by secret alchemist door, offers pots to Bjorn cooking. Leaxie finds cheap ale in cask by fireplace. Karmadel looks at Philosophers stone book, and notices reoccurring words 'stone', 'gold' & 'transmuting', and alerts party to stairs found in SW corner. (100XP roleplay) Svava takes candle stand from alchemist's desk and lights it. Bjorn disrobes in wine cellar and dons corpse plate mail, along with sword and shield. Assumed to be AC3 Skordala searches alchemist's work bench and chair and successfully finds his personal spell book! (100 XP) Sylvar grabs some cooked food and ale in preparation for going down to caves. Leaxie puts prepared mutton and ham into carry pack , then goes toward barracks SW corner secret door. Karmadel goes down stairs toward caves. Tralaan examines Alchemist's spell book and successfully finds 5 spells First level: affect normal fires, find familiar, message, Second level: fools gold, Fifth level: animate dead (100 XP) Svava moves down stairs into the caverns. Bjorn takes shield and long sword from male corpse in wine cellar. Karmadel moves deeper into caverns along eastern passage. Tralaan searches under long western wall bench in alchemist's lab but finds nothing. Svava moves into western cave and makes noise check but doesn't seem to hear anything. Bjorn enters stairwell heading toward caves and rest of party. Sylvar inspects bones in western cave along east wall and a green slime drops down on him burning his armor. "Get it off me!" (100 XP roleplay) Karmadel applies 4 hp of damage, 2 hp to the green slime and 2 hp to Sylvar. Svava begins to chant and then applies a torch for 5 hp, 2 hp to each, feels bad for having to do that action due to alignment. (200 XP) Bjorn applies fire for 5 hp, for 2 hp damage to both Sylvar and slime. The monster grows and begins to spread further around the victim! Skordala applies oil to Sylvar and lights the fire for 2 hp of damage, 1 to both monster and host. Svava applies 6 hp of fire damage, 3 to Sylvar and the monster. Reducing Sylvar to 1 hp rendering him barely conscious. Svava continues to chant and applies 2 hp of health to Sylvar as he hovers near deaths door, with the green slime slowly enveloping his body! (200XP) Sylvar rolls for 3 hp of damage, applying 1 to both himself and the green slime killing it! The creature disintegrates to the cave floor freeing Sylvar from it's deadly clutches! Karmadel applies 5 hp of healing (200 XP) keeping Sylvar from deaths door! (70 XP creature).
