Sounds like a corrupt image to me... you could try uploading it again and see if it works... You might try this link: https://wiki.roll20.net/Solving_Technical_Issues
Thanks Aaron, tried that stuff. I don't think its the image, cause it only happens when I try it with larger images. If I shrink the image, its fine. Also black for my players, unless the are at an exact zoom rate.
Safari is the native browser on OS X. I use a Mac as well. I'm using the latest version of Chrome on OS X Mavericks. BGB is also on a Mac using the latest version of Chrome, save that he is on Yosemite. Neither of us have this issue which makes me doubt it is related to the OS. I feel like I remember this bug cropping up several months ago, with Riley or Gauss solving it.
I agree with you on faintly remembering this a few months ago but I can't remember much about it. I might have to go archive reading when I get a chance.
Another mod toss me a link for it and here is the thread: https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/1198854/zooming-map-goes-black#post-1209987 but there is no fix posted. Gauss mentioned a couple things to try but I think you have do them already. There is research going on about this issue so please be patient. This is in reference to the original poster.
There is a known issue with images getting corrupted on Macs when you are uploading them. This seems to primarily affect Chrome on a Mac. When you upload an image your image is reprocessed into 4 versions. The different versions are used for different zoom levels. So, if one of those versions is corrupted you will see the corrupted version at certain zoom levels. Until the Devs fix this you can try uploading the image with a different browser to see if that works or you can use a Windows PC to upload the images (the problem is occurring in the upload process, you can use your Mac after uploading).
Aaron , it appears to affect any form of uploading. However, it only seems to be images that are primarily composed of black and transparent sections but this is not confirmed.
Ari , is this bug still occurring? If it is please do the following steps: 1) Go to: https://wiki.roll20.net/Solving_Technical_Issues and follow the instructions regarding the console log. Please open your console log before uploading the image that is breaking. 2) Upload the image. 3) If the image broke, please provide the console log here. 4) Create a map and label it "Broken image" and place the broken image on that map. 5) Post the campaign details link here (not the Join link). 6) Post the specs on your computer here. 7) Email the image that is breaking to Gauss_Death1@msn.com
I was having a similar problem when I uploaded an image by dragging and dropping into the VTT. If I went into my library and uploaded the map that way, it displayed just fine.
Mike please open a new thread and follow these directions, https://wiki.roll20.net/Solving_Technical_Issues .
