Ability to disable or ignore snap-to-grid while the grid is activated

While it's a useful feature when moving tokens around, it's a nightmare when trying to re-size background elements on the fly or even tokens if you want them smaller than the current grid space.

If you hold shift, it will ignore the grid snapping.
Tried that.
All it does is open the selected element in a new window if I try to move it and it still snaps to grid if I try to re-size it.

Well that's not normal. What's your browser/OS combination?

It's also possible that you have an addon that's interfering with the application and overriding the shift+left mouse press. Can you try pressing shift after you've begun moving/resizing the object and see if it still occurs?
Firefox+Windows 7

Still does it even if I press Shift when already moving things around.
Though I noticed it expands the elements in proportion to the original size while holding Shift.
Ok, problem solved.
It was the ALT key not SHIFT.

Oh, Man. I'm sorry. That'll teach me to give help/advice before at least two cups of coffee.

Alt + move does not seem to work on my Mac (OS X + firefox). Is there anyway to activate /desactivate grid snapping ? If not, I think it should be implemented. That would help us have background maps match the grid for example...
Alt + Move works for me on the Mac. But I have to click to select the token first, then keep Alt whilst moving. I am using Chrome.
