New to D&D - looking for game advice and invites

Hiya - I'm looking to get into D&D ... None of my friends want to play So I came on here - I'm happy to get books to learn, I really have no idea What I need to do to get started but the concept of D&D and the role play just looks very fun - I know I would enjoy it :) I am available to play sat 7pm until 9pm and Sunday any time (UTC +10 <-- in Aussie ^_^ ) Please message me or write here with any help or advice or invites :) thanks, ben.
Hello there! Great to see that you would like to get into D&D :) Shouldnt be too hard to find a group here, if you havent already, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask. The goal of D&D is after all to have fun :)
Before you get books, or read a lot, do some skimming and decide whether you'd like to play D&D 3.5, 4e, or Pathfinder. Those seem to be the popular D&D flavours here.

There are sites that allow you to read most of the rules and such. Pathfinder has a site, 3.5 have a site, and there are others also. Go to Game resource thread and read up. There are a lot of links to sites that can help you.
Thanks guys - I guess I should probably find out which D&D to play - thanks for the suggestions - will post back if I have any more questions:) Apart I do have 1 Q: do you have to vid and voice to play or can you have a player who only talks via texts just wondering :)
You can do any combination of video, voice, text. Most players here prefer voice over text, from my experience, but utilize both. Haven't had too many utilize video.

As DFN says. You can use any combination. I use text for game, voice for out of game chatter but have cameras disabled. It works well for me and my group.
I never use camera, but prefer to use voice and text, but if someone cant use a mic or anything, we mostly work around it by letting him/her type.
I would go here: https://app.roll20.net/lfg/search and fill in any info you may be looking for in a game/system once you have researched a bit. Be sure to check off the box that says "new players welcome" and you will find ones that understand you will be new! Good luck and welcome to Roll20!
