[PFRPG] Looking for people in a European time zone for a one shot

November 27 (10 years ago)

Edited November 27 (10 years ago)
Hey folks!
My spouse will be away for the holidays soon which leaves me with a few extra free evenings that I would like to use to prepare and run a one-shot Pathfinder module with all the bells and whistles. We are talking Dynamic Lighting, music, high-quality handouts, macros galore, dramatic roleplaying, lethal combat, the whole shebang.

Now all that I am missing are 4 people who want to join me for the ride and a module.

Concerning the former, I am usually willing to introduce new players to the game and show them the ropes but in this particular case I am afraid I have to insist on a good grasp on Roll20, the PFRPG rules, and the campaign setting (Golarion). I will provide tokens that come with all the macros needed for play but I will still need everyone to know exactly what happens after their character says "I cast burning sphere!". Also, I do not want to spend too much time out of character, explaining how grappling works, but deal with as much as possible in character.

Also, I do not want to pick a level 1 module but rather something from the mid-level range (around 9 to 13). I am open to suggestions on what exactly to choose but I am currently leaning towards Doom comes to Dustpawn.

So if all this did not scare you off and you think we could have some fun together, let me know! I am certainly looking forward to it!

Oh yeah, about time and date: I am in GMT+1, game will most likely be some time in the evening during the week or starting around noon if we agree on a weekend day. But that matter can be discussed once we have found a group of like-minded gamers.

Alrighty then, I hope I did not come off as bossy or anything, I just have some very specific ideas about the kind of game I want this to be and I know how many people apply for games around here so I want to manage expectations as good as possible.

I would love to play. I am CST, but the earlier in my day, the better. I am familiar with Pathfinder and come prepared. Capable of playing any type of character, and very excited about this.
November 27 (10 years ago)
Hi, I am in GMT area, running a campaign as a GM but dieing to play as a character right now!! evening during the week would be perfect for me (apart wednesday when i run the campaign mentioned before).... please sign me in!!! :)
November 27 (10 years ago)
Very nice, that didn't take long to find some takers!

So do you guys have any ideas about which module to run?

I'd prefer something from the Pathfinder Modules line before they made the format switch with Dragon's Demand, because it is much more likely that we will be able to finish one of those in one (or two) (long) sessions.

What kind of campaign are you running, Incudine? One of the Adventure Paths?
November 27 (10 years ago)
its based on the Eberron Setting from D&D3.5 but we use Pathfinder rules, I am using a mix of printed adventures (which i adapt a bit) as well as adventures/ interludes I write, we started level 1 and are now lvl 7/8.
I know Pathfinder quite well, but not so much of Golarion (will go through it before we start) but dont know about the adventure paths, so any module would be a fresh start for me :)

November 27 (10 years ago)
Something other than RotRL or Kingmaker. Council of Thieves, Wrath of the Righteous, or Shattered Star all appeal to me.
November 27 (10 years ago)
Sorry to disappoint you there, Kirby, but I do not intend to start a full blown adventure path. I am looking for a mid-level range stand-alone adventure like The Harrowing, Doom comes to Dustpawn, Ruby Phoenix Tournament, or (on the upper end) The Moonscar.
November 27 (10 years ago)
Oh, that's all good. I thought you were talking about an AP. I'm fine with a single module. Prefer it actually. I just misunderstood.
November 27 (10 years ago)
Looking at the descriptions of those, I think The Moonscar sounds great. Ruby Phoenix Tournament sounds cool also. What about Witchwar Legacy? Too high?
November 27 (10 years ago)
I really dont know any of them (will need some homework tonight...)

I would really like to play this character (the bounty hunter, not the ogre :)

The hound (hobgoblin gunslinger/ bounty hunter)

The ogre had been standing outside the thick wooden doors of the cave for a few hours and the cold had started to seep into his bones. He would have liked to light a fire but the boss had told him off when he suggested it…. What is the point of a hideout in the mountains when you light a fire in the open in the middle of the night and let everyone know where you are? That was why she was the boss, she was smart and she was tough
The sentry liked her, she knew what she was doing and the small band of raiders had been making a small fortune over the last few months raiding the region, even the bounties the governor had placed on her head did not trouble her!
And with a low rumble in the sky it started to rain… every time he was on guard duty it rained, one of the people they robbed must have been a witch and placed a curse on him…
That’s when through the rain a stranger riding a large black bull emerged from the muddy track, only to stop a few paces away. “ Tell Rose to get out and surrender” he said in a low growling voice from under his wide brimmed hat
“Nobody talks to the boss like this! Thought the ogre while charging the lone figure , his favoured greatclub raised high over his head to smash the stranger. Rose, the boss, would be proud of him
The stranger reached into his coat with lightning speed as a loud thunder resounded in the air, with a thud his greatclub fell behind him, leaving the ogre stopping in his track staring dumbfounded at the splintered wooden handle in his hands…
With a large revolver still smoking in his right hand and levelled to the ogre’s head, the rider reached in his saddle bags and pulled out 4 sets of manacles. “you must be deaf or stupid, so I will explain myself better, there is four of you and I have five more bullets loaded. So, now you will take these manacles, go inside and tell Rose that unless you all put them on and surrender to me right now, I will have to come and get you myself and I will not be gentle…. By the way, your bounty is now dead or alive”

basically a goblinoid Clint Eastwood :)
November 27 (10 years ago)
I don't have a particular character choice. I can hold off until the rest of the party decides what they want to help with balance.

I think I am going to go with Tomb of the Iron Medusa. It got very good reviews and I would love to go on a high-level dungeon delve. How does that sound to you guys?

That would, however, probably mean no guns. I have to mull it over a little but right now I don't think they would be a good fit, thematically.

Also, I usually do not allow monster, uncommon, or custom races. And at level as high as this, I am definitely not going to change that and risk unforeseen imbalances.

Sorry Incudine, if that crushed both main aspects of your character!

I should have been more open about the fact that in my games, you are already the odd man out when you are playing a gnome. (That is actually a hyperbole, but I like parties that roughly represent the demographic of the area the adventure takes place and Golarion is generally very human-centric.)
November 27 (10 years ago)
I find it hard to give up the extra feat anyway. Sometimes I play something else for flavor, but I kind of like Humans.
November 27 (10 years ago)
So we will need 14th level characters?
November 27 (10 years ago)
No worries, I will go back to the drawing board... Do you allow the new hybrid classes as well ? (brawler, swashbuckler, hunter etc etc)
November 27 (10 years ago)
I will allow the new classes but hold your horses for some time, please. This is first and foremost an interest check, I will post a Game Ad with full character creation rules and so on once I have settled for a module.

I am fairly certain about the Tomb of the Iron Medusa, though.
November 27 (10 years ago)
Well, you got my interest :)
November 27 (10 years ago)
Read about it on amazon and I'm up for it
November 27 (10 years ago)
If the game is not on tuesday, wednesday or sunday, i would definitely be interested in it. I am a veteran PF player with some campaigns as GM under my belt as well. I am experienced in both roll20 and PF system so almost anything that is in the books i know. I have no problem with staying in character the whole session and i would actually love to play out a mid-high game. Time of the game is mostly irrelevant for me since i am also in GMT+1 zone(i think). If you decide to host the game on some day i am available, i am available for whole day. I am used to marathon sessions and actually quite like them, 8-12 hours is what i can do without any drop in concentration.

Alright guys, I am on the edge of posting the LFG listing, I just need to figure out the exact time and date that will best suit me.

To give you all a heads-up, here is the link to the character creation guidelines (if you cannot access it, let me know).
December 01 (10 years ago)
Awesome, working on my character now!
December 02 (10 years ago)
Great!

Just don't put too much work into crunching the numbers just yet, there are still plenty of things to consider (like party composition and general fit) and I expect a lot more applicants as soon as the listing goes live.

That being said, you guys will get preferred treatment for showing interest so early.

Edited December 02 (10 years ago)
Is there still spot left? If there is i'd like to join.

I am GMT+2, and free most evenings (tho work on some saturdays), quite expeienced with Pathfinder and Roll20. For characters i like to fluff and crunch to explain each other (like taking frost resistance trait for someone from the north, or picking Bloatmage Initiate to reduce character's speed because he is of old age). Would be nice to play middle-level game, if i am not too late for the party.
December 02 (10 years ago)
No slots have been filled, it is not even "officially" listed as I am still missing a definitive time. People who posted here will get preferred treatment but are not guaranteed to join. It really depends on group composition, you know how it is.

Can't wait for it.
thinking about character options right now. I'm away for a few days with no internet, but please count me in!
:)
December 04 (10 years ago)
Here we go, date is set, and I already have one definitive player who will most likely play a swashbuckler or investigator.

This way to the listing!
December 04 (10 years ago)
All right, i would definitely want to be in, if you will have me. Tell me where to post my app and character and i will do so promptly :)
December 05 (10 years ago)
Oops, gave you the wrong link. This one should take you to the listing.

To everyone who sent me a private message, thank you very much for showing interest but I'd rather keep all applications in one thread instead of spreading them out across the different channels.

So if you are interested, please post an application in the Looking For Group listing I linked above. Thanks and sorry for making you double-post!
