Using Roll20 in a In-Person Campaign

Hello I was wondering if there could be any means to be able to use this program non-online? I have the means of setting it up for my players to each have a camputer and perhaps a way of having on large screen for all to view. Many of the features of Roll20 would be most helpful during the making of my campaign counting dramatic lighting, music and sound file use, as well as the ability to easily send notes and items to players. If there is not well I will figure something else out.

You need an internet connection, but after that you can use it in a face 2 face game no problem.  You don't even need the players to have a computer, you can do it all from the GM computer.  GM sees their Roll20 screen.  The 2nd monito (TV) sees the players Roll20 screen.  Thats how I do it.  Its even better if at least one of the players have a computer.  Then they can move their tokens around instead of the GM having to do everything. But since its "cloud" based you have to have an internet connection.

People do use Roll20 for Face to Face gaming. However, the Devs have stated that there is not, nor will there ever be, an off-line option. Sorry.  Some ideas on how people use it for Face to Face gaming: Technique 1) One computer for the GM and a second one for a projector or big screen TV. The players share the mouse/keyboard for controlling tokens. Technique 2) Separate computers for all.  Technique 3) One computer for everyone (including GM) but two separate instances of Roll20 running (one for the GM and one for the players).  - Gauss
Hmm, I will see what I can do with having a big screen tv or projector but most likely I will need to have two computers and have the players share the computer. We can have everyone have their own computer but that may be too much trouble.   Also that was a mistype, I understand I need to be online, what I was trying to say was not over the internet.
I've been using this for face-to-face gaming for about a month now.  I'm running both D&D Next and Traveller (Mongoose).  I've run it several different ways with great success each time.  I've used a top down projector and a large screen LCD as the primary viewing area hooked up to a client machine. Clients can either use the client machine (the one connected to the primary player display) for their movements when using a "battle mat" screen or they can connect with their own devices to make the movements.  We have used laptops, desktops and tablets for client machines. I've used Roll20 for Screenshots to establish scenes, music to establish mood and maps for combat. I love it.  The best thing about it is you can try it for free with next to no learning curve. Good Luck - Jaime
Hi Jaime Could you possibly post on your experience of the hardware you used especially the projector and (if you used them) speakers. I aim to do this at my wargames club but I would expect the strong lighting and hubbub of 40+ blokes could be challenging to most portable gear. I would also be interested whether you used video/voice and if so whether you used a single camera/mic for the face-to-face group or individual ones.  If you feel uncomfortable recommending things on the forum I am sure the mods would be happy with general comments and you can PM me with anything you think might be taken as an ad.

Sharing techniques and equipment ideas is not advertising. B y all means, please share your experiences of projector use (including stats). :) - Gauss
I used to do something very similar using another VTT (long before Roll20 existed) and it worked really well with an instance running on my media centre hooked up to a 42" plasma - and the GM instance just running on my laptop. Great for showing pictures, battlemaps, etc. I'd like to do it again when I get back to GMing but our host doesn't have a big TV - maybe I can convince him to buy one :D.
