Wounded and spent from their battle with Chorussina and the schir, the party mills about, uncertain what to do. The infernal armies are drawing near, so time is of the essence... but the heroes worry that pressing forward in their current condition would be foolhardy. As they are discussing their options, the nearby stone archway fills with an arcane light, opening a portal to an unknown location. Elaryan stares at the demon figure atop his staff, listening to it as though it is speaking to him, then suddenly jumps through the portal. Arthas and Nor do not follow. A moment later, Elaryan returns through the portal, and suggests that everyone follow him. Arthas reluctantly accepts the sorcerer's invitation, but Lor and Nor refuse, saying that they would rather take their chances in the dungeon than leap through into unknown dimension at the advice of a demon staff. As Arthas and Elaryan enter the archway, the two halflings begin to search the ritual chamber for a place to rest. Passing through the curtain of light, Arthas and Elaryan find themselves in the Temple of Angazhan where they rested earlier. Eovan is waiting for them there, as are Angazhan and his cleric Yrure’tugala. DISAPPOINTING , booms the demon lord. Yrure’tugala explains that the Ravenous King is disappointed in the party's progress. He had expected them to have secured the corruption forge by now. But he is willing to extend an offer of rest and healing to the party, since they were at least victorious in defeating Chorussina. As before, time will not pass outside the temple's walls, so the heroes do not have to worry about the devil army reaching the Sword of Valor while they sleep. Elaryan and Eoavn immediately accept the invitation and begin to make camp in the temple's side chamber. Arthas is more reluctant, but he agrees to stand watch while his companions sleep... though he will accept no rest or healing himself. The paladin stands at attention for a full three hours before the Ritual of Possession overtakes him and he blacks out. Eventually, Arthas, Elaryan, and Eovan wake, fully rested, with their wounds healed. They have been returned to Chorussina's ritual chamber, and the stone archway is once again dormant. As they are collecting their belongings and preparing to set out in search of Lor and Nor, a large, fiery lizard creature appears from behind the large doors in the center of the chamber. Before the heroes can react, the salamander hurls a fireball into their midst. Two more salamanders join the battle, and a fierce melee erupts, as the creatures attack with fire spells and summoned elementals. The party is able to bring down two of their foes, but without Malak or Xhotl, they are somewhat outmatched. Hubris is slain, then Arthas is disabled, and finally Eovan-- who has been reduced to fighting in his full thirty-feet-tall ape form-- falls to the final salamander's attacks. As the creature's flaming spear pierces the mighty ape's breast, Elaryan falls unconscious, returning to human form. Now the only combatants left standing are the salamander and Eovan. Even though the fiery creature is severely wounded from the battle with Elaryan, Eovan seems doomed. Suddenly, however, the half-elf pulls forth an elemental gem (which he stole from Arthas's haversack while the paladin was in the throes of his seizure) and smashes it upon the ground. A massive earth elemental appears and engages the salamander! This elemental is no match for the fierce warrior from the Plane of Fire, but it manages to distract him long enough for Eovan to finish him off with arrows. Then Eovan uses a healer's kit stolen from Arthas to revive the rest of the party (minus Hubris, who has been reduced to pile of ash). Arthas heals everyone the rest of the way, so that they can explore the chamber from which the salamanders appeared. The heroes cautiously proceed through the double doors. On the other side, they find a blisteringly hot room which houses a massive forge made of black and red metal. Elaryan has no doubt that this is the corruption forge , but the party is not sure what to do with it. They spend several minutes exploring some of the forge room's side chambers, before deciding to return to the hall of murals to continue their search for Nor and Lor. Everyone who played gains 3,000 XP.
